does anyone think Uber could potentially threaten CATS?

i would think less people driving will probably save cats...and squirrels, dogs, etc

I know a guy who did this in New Orleans for two full years. There was a car rental place only a few blocks away from his house. It can be surprisingly cheap to rent a car for a weekend.

and i dont have family in the immediate vicinity so im not trying to get to the northshore, or baton rouge etc... for day trips all that frequently.... a couple of random beach trips with friends here and there.

anything substantial, flying makes more sense as i have plenty of points.

really, its pretty rare that i have the need to drive out of town.

There's no way anyone in louisiana could do this. There's not enough public transportation to supplement Uber.

I know a few people who don't own cars. It's called living in a city.

You would either overdose or die of a venereal disease in two weeks, max.

big city lifestyle (NYC)

It's always been possible to do this in NYC with taxis/subways/etc.

I could do this and it would be a little cheaper... but I'd rather have the convenience of having my own car like I do

In major cities easily doable and we are thinking about going to a 1 car. I live within 4 blocks of two bus routes that can get me downtown to work in 10 minutes, more than enough bars/restaurants/gyms within walking distance.

Lets say car note and insurance is $350/month. Car rentals over the weekend are really cheap, when traveling I've rented several for $40. So lets say two weekend rentals at $50/piece, plus an average of 4 $10 uber rides a week (really high). Add in a $50 monthly transit pass. That comes out to $310/month max. This doesn't even consider biking when the weather is nice.

Where 80% of people in the US live its almost impossible. Another 10% of people live in places where its doable but requires lifestyle adjustments. And probably 5%-10% of people (including me) live in places where its economically beneficial and doesn't affect lifestyle choices.

We are thinking about going to 1 car, but we examined out weekly trips and 95% of those (including work and entertainment) are within a 5 mile radius in City.

Within a 10 minute bus/streetcar trip or a 20 minute bike ride I can watch NFL, NBA, and Division 1 college sporting events in person.

We got rid of the wife's car. Save 150 bucks a month insurance. It's very rare for us to both need a car at the same time. And now with UberX potentially entering the market, it'll never be an issue.

Even if I lived and worked in a city.....my boat isn't going to pull itself.

Very true! I have a friend who has a nice boat, he keeps it at a marina in Mandeville on the water but I'm sure that cost a pretty penny. I've actually though about what I would do if I had a boat, I would probably by an old rusting F-150 with no A/C and use it only for hauling stuff!
