Thinking about flying frontier later in month from Houston to Atlanta. Prices are crazy cheap. I know it’s a low rate airline, but that’s a hard deal to pass up. Is it as bad as the horror stories I’ve heard??

Can't be any worse that the regular airlines these days, go for it if you don't need to be there exactly on time

I flew Frontier 3 or 4 times with no problem before a nightmare experience. Decided then that I would never fly them again, will just pay the extra for a better airline. It’s basically a dice roll. It may be fine, but at some point you’ll get what you pay for.

I just did a round trip on frontier for the first time in probably 15 years, maybe longer. it’s as budget as budget gets, but both flights were on time, the staff was friendly, and the price couldn’t be beat.

The only time I've tried to fly Frontier they cancelled our flight the morning of our flight, and didn't even bother to email/text/call or anything to let us know. I only found out because I happened to check to see if our flight was on time four hours before and saw it was cancelled. On top of that when my GF talked to then to get a refund for the flight, they only cancelled/refunded the first half of the trip, and we had to go through the hassle of dealing with them twice to get both refunded.

I'll never try and use them again. Good luck.

If it’s just me, I use it like a bus. Won’t fly them if my wife or kids is coming along.

I've flown Frontier plenty of times. It's not exquisite, but I certainly don't hate it. Here's a few things to know -

Nothing is free. The base fare pays for a seat on the plane, and that's it. You can carry a purse or small backpack (like children size), but a regular size backpack, carry-on, checked bag all are an additional cost. If you want to choose your seat, additional cost. If you want water, coffee, a soft drink, or a snack, you have to pay for it. The cushioning in the seats is thinner than the major airlines. The planes fly slower than the major airlines. They also have limited routes on specific days of the week. So, if there is a cancellation you might be stuck where you are for a day or two. And lastly, the extreme low prices allow a certain clientele of people who let's say, don't exactly shine the best humanity has to offer in social situations. I don't care how much money you have. But I do care if you act poor.

Having said that -- as an individual I have no problem flying Frontier when the price is right. And, it often is half the price of the major airlines, or even better. I once flew roundtrip Tulsa to San Jose for $89. Flown Northwest Arkansas to San Francisco multiple times for less than $200. I travel light though, using a kids backpack, so the no carry-on doesn't bother me. People complain about the fees, but if you think about it, it gives the customer more choice. I don't get a discount with American or United if I don't have a carry-on, don't choose my seat, and don't eat their pretzels and biscoff cookie. Why should I pay more for a service I am not using? I just want to get from point A to point B as cheaply and quickly as possible. If that's you, then yes, I recommend it. If any of those things mentioned above are a show-stopper, then there's your answer.

It's better than Spirit, marginally.

It's not bad on flights in the 2hr range.

I would imagine a flight from ATL to IAH fits in that time frame.

So long as it's just you and you're fine with getting back at some point, frontier is fine. If you're traveling with family or on a schedule pick a tier 1 airline.

The problem is if they don’t fly that day, it may be a day or two or three before the next potential flight.

Early flight? Make sure and eat a large meatball sub on the plane for breakfast...fit right in.

Good news is you’ll probably get to share your seat with your neighbor.

I have flown them once. I didn't have any complaints with them at all.

The only thing I would say is be mindful of your luggage. They don't allow free carryon. In my instance, I had a checked and a carryon. That cost me $120. Meanwhile on my return flight with Delta, I only paid $30 for luggage.

Between my wife's luggage and mine, we definitely did not save money by booking Frontier. But that's my fault for not doing research ahead of time.
