Driving through there leaves me under the impression there isn't a lot to do on the weekends, or ever really

Middle of nowhere, flat and tornadoes. Drove through once and it was enough for me.

It wouldn't be preferred, but it's big enough (roughly 200,000) to make it barely tolerable.

The people, in my experience, are generally nice and hospitable.

It can get brutally cold...the wind can really howl through there.

The worst part about Amarillo is the seclusion. They don't have a great airport and You are roughly:

-9 hours from Houston
-7.5 hours from San Antonio
-7.5 hours from Austin
-6.5 hours from El Paso
-6 hours from Dallas
-6.5 hours from Denver
-4 hours from Santa Fe
-4 hours from Oklahoma City

Point is, you better get comfortable being in Amarillo.

That's what I was going to say. I've been there s few times for work. The Old Texan is great. If you can eat 72 oz of meat, you eat free.

Forget the steak. Go to Tyler's Bbq. It's incredibly good. I stepped there every time ice I've passed through Amarillo.

Growing up in Houston, it was always the "stop for the night" town on the way to Colorado, which we drove to sometimes every year. I am familiar with the 72 oz steak and the Cadillac Ranch. I know that the High School mascot is the "Golden Sandstorm", which is pretty unique. I've been horseback riding in Palo Duro Canyon, which is pretty cool. Other than that, man, it is remote.

I'm here for same reason (no idea what he does for work). There is not much to do here. It's your average city.
