Not really surprising. I've known people who refused to move there because the cost of living is double

Very similar to BR.

Way too expensive for what it is.

Hartford also isn't growing and has a very high crime rate. I bet there are a lot of nice houses in once middle class neighborhoods that have decreased in value because the neighborhood around the house has gone to hell. Other neighborhoods probably have overinflated housing prices because those houses are located in the few remaining nice areas.
Property taxes are also very high on those houses because of the dwindling tax base. The city/county has to tax the hell out of the ramining tax base.

I was offered a job that I turned it down because I would've had to move there. Place is a shithole.

Best barber shop I've ever been to was there. Free long trail on tap for waiting and during the hair cut. Each "chair" had its own tv/remote. Hot towels, straight razor. It was on point. Down town on like Mott street.

Sucks for a young person to move to with no friends, but there are areas 5 minutes from downtown Hartford that consistently get rated among the top communities in America to live in. All of the suburbs have incredible public schools and almost no crime. It is just expensive and filled with liberal NIMBY types.

Well that explains the cost of living.

Connecticut and Rhode Island don't seem like very appealing places to live.

Hartford and Stamford are hellholes but CT has some great towns along the coast and Midstate. I was stationed at Groton, CT which wasn't the nicest place either. The small towns of CT and RI tucked in state forests are gorgeous.

RI has some great areas to live

But yes, it is stupid expensive to live in the NE
