What % of people that park in them (with state issued permits) are actually impaired to the point that need them?

Being lazy is a handicap these days.

It's ridiculous the amount of people that are too fricking lazy and park in the HC parking spots. I have a 3 level lumbar fusion and spinal cord stimulator and don't have one.

it depends - my Dad has one from the VA for being disable, and if i drive somewhere I park there - sometimes he goes in, and sometimes he changes his mind last second.
we had some family friends that used her fathers handicap tag for years after he died and they werent handicapped.
those type suck.

Never worry about it. I pull in a parking lot and park in the back. I’m healthy and don’t mind walking. It’s appropriate to leave closet spots to elderly, women, or those who have served in the military.

All I heard about from “differently abled” spokespeople in the run up to the passing of the ADA was how they were just as capable and wanted to be treated like every other American. If that’s true, you can roll your arse across the parking lot like everyone else.
It’s just another indication of a group wanting all the benefits of that group without any of the responsibilities.

What is the usage of handicapped spaces, relative to the quantity they are required to provide?
At least 90 percent of all handicapped spaces are empty from my anecdotal view. Businesses are required to dedicate way too much space for these spots.

I see more just obese ppl.
However I have a friend who has been in a wheelchair since 18yrs old. She needs her ramp. Don't fckk with her ramp space. If you do without a tag, I'll drag you through a parking lot.
I lift, BJJ, collect pokemon cards and have decent cardio.

I have a cousin who is older now, but he became a quadriplegic as a result of a car accident when he was a younger guy.. When my other cousin was going thru the contents of the cousin’s car that had been involved in the accident- he found in the console a crumpled up ticket for parking in a handicapped parking space, issued just a few days before the accident that would paralyze him………. That’s a true story, and i dont know who believes in karma or whatever you want to call it- but ever since then, i have never even thought about parking in a handicapped parking spot.. im just thankful to have functional legs so i can park in any spot, no matter how far away- and then walk to wherever im going .

My guess is that every judgmental know-it-all posting snide remarks about people using handicap parking tags are either jealous or clueless. My doc gave me a permit request when we scheduled my hip replacement surgery 8 weeks ago. The hip pain I was feeling before surgery was crippling since surgery less intense pain, but still limited in my mobility. I am hopeful things will improve enough for me to no longer need the permit. I don’t wish this level of pain on anyone.

I've got terrible sciatica in my left leg and I always walk my arse from a normal spot.

If there are 4 empty handicap spots open I may use one if it’s to run on and out.

I always park in the far back of a parking lot since you have a lot less pedestrians to watch for, parked faster and you get extra steps in for the day,
