Hahnville High School adds police presence after controversial performance by students
quote:
The school system sent out a statement this morning saying that "there are unverified rumors and speculation regarding a bomb threat at Hahnville High School." The statement added that "there is no creditable source or threat regarding this reported information" and that there are additional police on campus as a precautionary measure.
quote:
"St. Charles Parish Public Schools respects and celebrates cultural diversity, historical perspectives, individual differences, and recognizes the importance of a positive learning environment inclusive of all. A particular poem that was written by a student and shared by students at the Hahnville High School cultural show offended some audience members. We apologize as that was not the intention. The cultural show was intended to celebrate diversity and unite the student body."

Wonder what the poem said.

There's a video of what seems to be students doing the poem at some performance. I haven't watched it yet.

These rumors started after black students shared a poem during a "cultural show" at the high school which included references to the Black Panthers group.

Since when did public schools allow the promotion of hate groups? Listen to the beginning of this video as they announce themselves as a part of the Black Panther group. The crazy thing is, is that administration was okay with this! Listen to the poem they read. They give very true facts. History is not pretty. Slaves were beaten and killed if they looked at a white person funny. But to bring up the Black Panthers in what is a "culture show" is simply not okay. The Black Panthers killed people because they did not believe peaceful protesting tactics used by Martin Luther King Jr. were effective. Go to the end of the video and they raise their fists in the air to separate themselves from the Caucasian race in the auditorium. I truly could not believe my eyes. Multiple of my friends were scared to death because they were not black and were surrounded by this hateful message. I urge you to call Hahnville High School and complain that this never happen again. This is absolutely absurd that anything like this would even be allowed to happen!

This is definitely an over reaction but I certainly wouldn't want a Black Panther movement going on at my kids' school. There is a history of violence as an acceptable tool of protest and I wouldn't want my child to be exposed to even more of the "us" vs "them" mentality.

Or was it the Annual Reading of the Eddie Murphy Lyrics, "Kill the White People", aka, the traditional Black History Month Closing Ceremony?
Eddie Murphy – Kill The White People Lyrics
I live in a shanty in the shantytown.
We have no money so we had to sleep on the ground.
I played the music. My father he dig a ditch.
My mother she do laundry life sure was a bitch.
But 'till we killed the white people. Ooh we gun make them hurt.
Kill the white people yea. But buy my record first.
Ooh yea. Why don't you buy my record?
We sing of freedom and ooh equality.
But we really don't care we just want money money money.
We want to drive in a big black limosine.
Get so high off ganja we can't even see.
And then we kill the white people. Ooh we gunna make them hurt.
Kill the white people. Yea. Ooh but buy my record first ooh.
When you go in the record store. We gunna wait outside.
We gunna hit them in the head with a bat and make them cry.
But 'till we kill the white people.
Yea but buy my record first.

It's disturbing how many people in the crowd got super excited when they held up the black panther fist. Like that's something to be proud of. SMH.

I've seen some of it. Students dressed up in homage to the Blank Panther Party and declare that they are part of the Black Panther Party.
A quote from the stage performance:
quote:
How can America be great again if they killin' off the ones that made it great?"
A pic from the end of the performance with the "performers" and members of the audience holding a raised fist in the air.:

Can you imagine a bunch of white HS students walking on stage in KKK robes and the white audience being all fired up about it?
Good grief.
Good grief.

Was the play a form of absurdist theater?

A public school that doesn't already have police presence? We had metal detectors when I was in school.. And that was in the mid 90s.

There's a police presence there. We had cops there back in the mid-late 90s. They're just increasing the presence.

Fear is being whipped up daily and it's feeding on itself. Black Panthers just make people who feel threatened feel a little more powerful. That's why they are kind of scary. People who feel threatened will do thugs they would never consider under other circumstances.
