They would have to pay servers more than minimum wage or else you'd have the type of people working at Popeyes serving you food in a sit down restaurant.

People argue that Chick Fil A pays min. wage and attracts good kids, but they also are employed by almost ALL high schoolers. High schoolers can't legally work in a restaurant because of shift lengths, no breaks, being out past driving curfew, and the biggest one.. can't serve alcohol below the age of 18.

The only way we'll keep good service is for restaurants to pay at least close to what servers already make. And if they do that, your food costs just skyrocketed because restaurants already have trouble turning much of a profit.

All that said, I'm in favor of it.

Yep. I don't understand what people are doing to even talk about "When I get bad service, I don't tip". Why are you getting bad service enough to even talk about it as a "when" type of thing?

The food costs the same. Only difference is where the paycheck comes from. Let's make it a little more reliable for the server.

Yup, my fiance has a friend who can be a complete bitch to servers. I refuse to dine with them anymore.

That is my mother-in-law. I dread dining out with her now. Always complains. Life is too short to focus on negative crap all the time.

Not a lie for me. My wife and I are both educated professionals. It is rare that we get a night out to ourselves, so we really look forward to going out. 90% of the time we have no issues. Every once in a while we will get a server who clearly wants nothing to do with us for whatever reason. Now, when we look around and see you clearly being more attentive to your other customers and short changing us, don't expect a great tip. Stereotype if you want, but i'm not going to tip you based off of black shame. We have tipped more then the meal cost when we were blown away by the great service, and I have had servers I didn't leave a penny. Understand this, I don't control anybody else's actions except my own. All I ask is to be treated like you would treat any other man. You can carry any notions that you want, but just don't go bitching when I return the gesture.

show me where i changed your words up.

my servers make $18-20 an hr...restaurants could not afford to pay close to that without a major increase in prices or hiring much worse staff.

Exactly. The pay is what makes people wait tables and deal with people like the news story is about.

If you're dropping my pay to $10-$12/hour, I'm going sit my happy arse in a receptionist chair at a dentist or something and dick off on Facebook.

You tip a bartender who literally grabs a beer at a club and ratches the top off in two seconds , slides it to you and immediately takes off to some girl, even though I waited five minutes to get a miller lite?

Nah brah

i'd say if you came in with a large group you should expect this just as the staff should be expected to make less money. Just the way it is.

This viewpoint is pretty bullshite no matter who the customer is. Management should be on the lookout for this and get on top of servers with the "I'm entitled to your tip" attitude. I worked as a server and agree it sucks when you get stiffed (I've been victim to the stereotype being discussed many times), but I've also sat at bars in restaurants and heard bar tenders complain about regulars that don't tip. It's just the crap you have to deal with. I recently ate at a Twin Peaks bar next to the hotel I was staying at and the girls at the bar were complaining about the guy at the other end who had been watching games all day and only ordered$XXX worth of food and how they would only get $3 tip. They were telling each other how they needed to go talk to the manager because he does it all the time (Not harrasing them and it was not busy). That restaurant isn't there for the servers to make money (obviously the restaurant is going to want to make money), it's there for customers to get something to eat. Reastaurant is going to get a bad rap if customers know that servers only want to help people who spend a lot of money so they can get a tip. I can't believe who bluntly they were talking about it in front of customers and acting like management should step in an help them out.

Maybe you might know the answer to this. Why do most restaurants now include a "tip" section on a bill when no waiter or waitress is provided? Those places where you order, fill your drink, go pick up your own order, get all of your silverware/napkins, and throw away your food? Sandwich shops, burrito places, and the like.

Yeah, I didn't agree with him on that either. I've never treated someone poorly for any reason. I might internally stereotype once they show signs of being someone who isn't going to tip, but I don't become a shitty server over it. I like knowing I did what I could.

I've been job hunting. These little $10/hr receptionist jobs are everywhere in BR.
