UDATE: She passed. Coded again and couldn't recover this time. Thank you for all your stories and prayers. Unfortunately, I didn't make it in time. At least it won't be long until I see the rest of my family
I'm thankful for visiting with her the weekend before I moved.
It's 1:30 am. I just moved to Arizona. My grandmother, who I am very close to, is back in Louisiana. I just received a call stating that my she went into cardiac arrest and is on a ventilator. She has been receiving chemotherapy for stage 4 non-Hodgekins lymphoma. My family is waiting to give me more information. I wish I could hop on a plane now, but there a couple more things at play.
My company paid to ship my car and stuff out here. My car is being delivered today between 11 am and 1 pm. When I flew out one-way this past week, I checked two bags and carried on one to have as much clothes as possible until the rest of my stuff gets here.
I am staying in hotels until my apartment is ready on Friday, so I don't have a long term living arrangement at this point. In other words, I can't leave all the stuff in the hotel room that I am in right now because I have to check out tomorrow. Nothing was available for a consecutive long-term number of days.
I am supposed to be starting my first job out of graduate school, essentially starting my career on Monday.
My girlfriend has a two-day interview on Monday and Tuesday. This is really big for her. She needs this job before she can move out here. It's also her dream job. She is flying in tomorrow morning and flying out Wednesday.
Can she recover from this? What is her prognosis? How long does my grandmother have? Should I fly out as soon as I get my car because I can leave all the rest of my luggage in it? I think my job would understand if I can get in touch with someone tomorrow. What should I do?
Any advice would be appreciated, but I am very worried.

If your grandmother is terminal, just has days to live, I'm sure that your job would hold your place fora few days or for a week.

Would she pass if they took her off the ventilator? How long before that decision is made?
Thank you for your opinion, Ellis Dee. I am feeling the same way. Also, thanks for the prayers.

She would pass if off vent. Means she can't respirate on her own
Family over everything man. You'll regret not going home.
Also this is quite likely the end. Without knowing more I can't say for sure. But id be heading back ASAP
If your gf gets flustered over this, dump that bitch now.

Is she already out of consciousness? Did I miss my last chacne to say goodbye?

Not necessarily. Like I said I can't know for sure.
You can be on a vent and still be conscious. In most cases though that isn't the case.
With her being that sick and elderly, if she's coded she is likely not doing well.
How old is she?

She was admitted to the hospital yesterday because she developed a bad infection on her leg this past week, which wasn't healing. They had her on a strong antibiotic, fluids, and gave her a blood transfusion. In the middle of the night, she went into cardiac arrest. She is currently sedated and on the ventilator.

Hmm that's very interesting. Any idea what kind of bacterial infection?
Given how hard her body is fighting already, that infection will really stress her system.

When was she diagnosed stage 4?
Posted on 9/20/14 at 4:29 am to LSUSoulja08
Yesterday afternoon, they tested her for MRSA. They hadn't received the results yet last I heard.
She had MRSA about 2 years ago on her arm, which took a while to be ?cured/healed?. She is a survivor of breast cancer, which occurred before I was born, but in the process, a number of lymph nodes were removed as well as receiving a mastectomy.

She sounds like a tough old gal
MRSA is no joke. I sincerely hope it's not that.
Either way, if it were me, I wouldn't chance it. Id want to be there. Tough situation but for me, family over everything. Every single time.

About 4 years ago, her lymph nodes in her neck were feeling swollen and painful. When they ran the scans and blood test, the cancer had already spread to her bone marrow. They opted not to do chemo then because it was progressing so slowly.
She would go to the oncologist regularly to watch the cancer. 2 months ago it started to progress much more rapidly. They decided to start chemo with a total of 6 treatments. She had just received her third one.

Prayers to you brother.
Dealing with that for 4 years can wear anyone down. At least it's very treatable.
The only thing that really scares me is that she crashed and then needed a vent to keep her here. However, I've seen people come off the vent after needing one after a cardiac event.
Best of luck to you and your family. Stay strong

This is good to hear. I was wondering if it happens.

That's a tough situation to be in. It seems that most of the time bad things never happen at good times. This is one of those tests in life. Family always comes first. Your job will understand if they are worth working for. Good luck. Prayers sent.

Seven, life is all about decisions sometimes you make the right ones and sometimes the wrong ones. Hope you make it home. If not sounds like you are a good grandson so i am sure grandma would understand. Good luck my man and hope your grandma pulls through.
