Headed to Vegas and want to take a day trip to GCNP. According to google it's a 4 hour drive. My question is would it be better to rent rent a vehicle and head down there or go with a tour group?

Do you love large groups of Asians with massive cameras?

If the answer is yes....tour group
No...rent a car

Going to the Grand Canyon is pointless unless you have time to hike down.

And 480 is right. Do the helicopter tour instead.

So taking in views of one of the 7 wonders of the world is "pointless"?

So a person in a wheelchair shouldn't bother seeing the Grand Canyon cause they can never hike down it? Grandmaw and Grandpaw are clearly wasting their time as well by going?

We flew in to Vegas and drove to the GC the same day and stayed the night. Drove back to Vegas the next day. Trying to drive there and back doesn't leave you much time. The drive is nice too. You can stop at the Hoover dam on the way

I've been three times and never hiked down once, still a wonderful sight to see.

It's a 4 hour drive from where I live in AZ to the Grand Canyon. I've done the there and back in one day thing a couple times when family/friends have visited. It's a long day...but totally doable.

Leave at 6 am and arrive at 10 am. Stay until 4-5 pm and then get back around 8-9. 6-7 hours is plenty of time at the South Rim. Unless you are hiking or something...you really only need a few hours up there.

Hiking down is on my bucket list but I've yet to do it. I've been to GC like 4-5 times and have yet to hike down it. Yet I've still enjoyed every visit.

I've been to a lot of national parks and the Grand Canyon was the most disappointing to me cause there really isn't much to do unless you go down in it, which is something that isn't really great for a day trip and requires paperwork, etc.

I'd suggest the helicopter tour. That would be an awesome way to see it. That or plan a trip where you actually have time to hike down in it or raft it.
