Feeling pretty excited but a little nervous since after I had scheduled my procedure and filled out the paperwork the surgeon casually mentioned that she'd never get LASIK For those of you who have had it, how was your experience?

Piece of cake. Had surgery in the morning played golf in the evening.
I do know one guy who had some haziness for a few days. He is fine now.

The actual surgery took about 5 minutes. My eyes have since changed and now I see about 20/40. Still awesome not having to wear glasses.

This is going to be the first thing I do when I graduate. Can't WAIT

The best surgeons use the L573 laser.

I had it and had just about every complication I was warned about. They were all overblown and even the residual dryness ended after about 6 months. Surgery at 34. I turn 50 this year. I'm very glad that I did it.

There's really nothing to it. I went home after the procedure and napped for a few hours. When I woke up and looked around, I couldn't believe the difference in my eyesight. The dry eyes is a nuisance, but it passes relatively quickly.

I had it sixteen years ago in April. Surgery was over in a couple of minutes. Even through the initial haze, I walked out of the surgery room and could see the clock on the wall for the first time in my life without lenses. Threw my glasses in the trash underneath it and have had 20/20 vision since.

Insurance cover this? I'd love to not wear contacts.

I wouldn't do it again. I lost sight in both eyes. Luckily my wife puts it in for me during sex now.

Approved? I did not think this was covered by inurance

Greatest thing I ever did. The surgery was awkward and I had to go back to the waiting area because I had bubbles, so that racked the nerves a bit. But it was quick and painless (a little pressure).
Went home, took a nap. When I woke up, I was reading the scrolling banner at the bottom of ESPN. It's only been 4 months, but I couldn't be happier.

Sorry, forgot I started the thread lol
My insurance did not cover it and from what I understand most don't
I meant approved by the surgeon. You have to go in for a consultation to make sure your eyes aren't changing too much on a yearly basis and that your cornea is healthy/thick enough. My doc said about 20-30% of people are turned down.
And to whoever asked how much it costs, mine will be $3500 total. That's on the higher end but this isn't really something I want to bargain hunt for

Everyone says it's quick and painless, and the actual procedure was for me also, but them putting in the opener clamp thing bothered the hell out of me. I expected discomfort, it bordered on painful. I likened it to a really bad blood draw or IV insertion where the nurse can't find the vein and goes digging around in your arm to locate one. Once they get the clamp on, it's fine though. On a scale of 1 to 10 it might only be a 4, but when you're expecting a 1 or 2 and you get a surprise 4 -- on your eyeball-- that suuuucked.

so you'll have an improved yet still "grim" outlook on life ?

Had mine done 2 years ago. It takes no time but it is the strangest experience. I took the sleeping pill they sent me home with & slept through the night. I didn't use the drops like I was supposed to after the surgery, seemed to make my vision blurrier. Best decision I ever made. Good luck!
