Good price for laying tile?

I plan on doing all the prep work--removing baseboards, cleaning floor, cutting door jambs, etc. All I want the guy to do is lay the tile and grout it.
What is a reasonable price per sq. ft.?

They usually charge per square foot in flooring.
I did all the prep work when I replaced carpet with laminate and they charged me $2.50/sf. Cutting tile and grouting is probably more expensive.

It's really easy to do if you want to tackle it yourself.

I've tried it.
No thanks. I want it to look good.

I'm not sure about tile, but I can tell you that I get paid very well to lay wood.

Jesus Christ, "Don". That calculator is a bit on the high side.
I can't imagine it's gonna cost 4000 to tile 600 square feet.
Say hello to Mrs. Cornelius for me.

This...about the easiest home upgrade project there is. Buy/rent a wet saw, spend time planning and prepping, and good results are almost guaranteed.

Your mom doesn't charge a dime for me to lay pipe.

I never got paid to do tile but I helped some contractor friends from time to time. I've also laid a few thousand square feet of tile for family and friends. The going rate up north for just laying tile was $5 square foot. More for prep, backerboard, grout etc. I know the contractor I helped always charged an outrageous amount for grouting and always talked the customer into doing that part themselves to save money.
The $5 square foot was prices in the northeast 10 years ago. Not sure what labor costs are in LA compared to the NE.

Out of all flooring, tile is the one that is "easiest" to do as a DIY project. DIY carpet looks like complete garbage and DIY hardwood is impossible. That being said, unless it's junker of a house (or junky rental), I'd hire a professional since it never seems to be level.
I thought laying prefinished hardwood on a subfloor was the easiest job I've ever done. Tile is also pretty easy as long as the wife doesn't want some crazy off setting or diagonal pattern.

So a 2500 square foot house would be 2$ a square foot for demo, 2$ a square foot for the tile, and 5$ a square foot for installation. So about 25k

You should be able to get it done for $7.50 per foot including grout, thinset, and backer board. Not including the tile.

Like I said I've never been paid or paid for Tile work. Just going on what my research was 10 years ago when I laid a bunch of tile. Looking up the costs today it seems to be still in line. The NE would be on the high end of the scale.

You guys are nuts. It's no more than 2.00 psf and that's with the crew supplying grout and sealer. Look around, OP. There are crews doing new construction work who will gladly work with you after hours. All you have to do is literally walk in the site and ask.

Yeah and that Mexican crew your talking about will give you nonfortified mortar and your tile will be cracking after a year.
