What do you shoot and from which tees do you play.

Me = mid 80's low 90's and I play from the middle tees. Usually the blues I hate getting paired up with some Dbag bruhs who insist on playing the tips and can't hit a fairway or green. When should you move back?

I would play from where your distance and score dictates. Play from where the bunkers are in play and the approach shots are from where the course design would assume. I shoot in the 90's and every course is different, but usually play from where a 260-75 yd drive will put me around the bunkers with an 8 iron in on a normal hole.

260-75 yd drive

That's a pretty good drive for someone who shoots in the 90s

No one over a 10 hdcp should play the back tees. I'm scratch but haven't played competitively for a while. Most of my friends are 12-20 handicaps so I usually just play the second set of tees with them.

I shoot high 70's from the 1-ups

I can't really break 80 from the tips so I stick with the 1-ups

I bet you do. Usually around 6200-6500yds. I'm a senior, and play with other seniors over 50. Love to play from the tips but they would kick my arse.

If under 60, under 18 handicap and at home or very familiar course you play tips IMO.

If at a longer, difficult and unfamiliar course then middle tees are expected.

Men

<8 tips
8-18 blue
19+(or don't know what these numbers are) white
Senior high HCP red

Swallow your damn pride. Also you can't shoot 90 from tips then tell people "you would shoot low 80s" if you played blue

To answer your question, it's not so much how far you hit it as what you shoot. If you hit it 280 with your driver, but still shoot 90+, then you need to be on the regular tees until you drop your scores.

Now, if you're not playing competitively, then play where you want, but please don't let your ego get in the way. If you can't handle the longer holes, then move forward. You'll have more fun.

I used to play the tips, back when I had a single digit handicap. Now, old age and lack of playing time have me shooting in the low-to-mid 80s most days, so I'm usually at the tees next up from the tips (usually blues around here).

Luckily, I still hit my driver in the 270 range, but I know the day is fast approaching when playing from the regular men's tees will be required.

i play from what i guess you call the men's tees. when i learned to play as a kid there were 4 tees: ladies, juniors, mens, pro. This was out at English Turn. Only guys that were single digit handicaps were generally supposed to play the tips.

I'm not advanced enough and or consistent enough to play the tips especially on long courses. I enjoy playing from what i call the men's tees and i'm right in your avenue score wise.

Nothing's worse than a bunch of fricking hackers trying to play from tips.
All they do is slow down play.

I have broken 80 from the tips, and shoot low 80's on the reg.
my distance off the tee is unreal. If I play one up, I'm clubbing down all day.
F that.
