Not to mention, most of them are all washed up junior golfers who play 10 times a year now.

Straight, left, right or backwards, you do not drive the ball 300-310ish.

And to think you usually bring legitimacy to most of the threads you post in.

Just a FYI. I don't claim to hit it 300+ but can when I get into one...but I'm on the small side and still have a swing speed of 108.

If someone is any bit bigger than me, I'm sure they can get into the 112-115 range which means with the correct launch angle they're getting 275+ carry.

I'm not disagreeing that it can happen, but average?

There is only 1 tour player who averages over 310 yards and that's Dustin Johnson at 319. Second is Charlie Baljan at 309.7 and Bubba at third with 309.5. Not to mention there are only 20 that average 300 exactly, or over.

FIGJAM Mickelson averages 298.6.

Paul Casey was smashing it yesterday, but averaged only 295.0.

The freak, Henrick Stenson is short at only 292.9.

Even the Tiger, Patrick Reed is averaging 291.

Yes, people can catch one that gets to 298, but anyone saying they average 300-310 is funny.

I'll keep my 238.6 and Bloody Mary and see you long shots on the green.

Just a FYI, it's only measured on two holes a round...and its typically one into the wind and one downwind.

So say the downwind hole puts a bunker into play at 300...we'll they're going to hit 3W and play it safe.

Yesterday during the Travelers it was cold and wet and on #4 which is an uphill par 4 into the wind (a hole that most of the field is hitting Driver on) the average distance was like 255 because of the conditions.

Most of us are playing in the middle of the summer on dried out Bermuda

Total drives:

Dustin Johnson 86
Charlie Beljan 110
Bubba Watson 60
FIGJAM 92
Paul Casey 88

I don't know how they do it, but they number of drives recorded are listed on the website and for some to be in the 80's, I figure it's a pretty good average.

It doesn't throw out the times they didn't hit driver though

Those have a large effect on the "average"

Yeah, that and they don't swing driver full bore all the time like amateurs try to do.

Many guys on tour could be in long drive competitions if they wanted to

I have a golf etiquette question that doesn't warrant a thread so hopefully I get the answer here

Where are you supposed to put the rakes after playing from the sand?

In the trap, along the edge, leaning on the edge??

I always placed them parallel to the edge but in the grass. I just see them differently all the time and don't know what is proper

Parallel to the edge

Guess it depends on the course. At chambers bay they would put them on the steps

There's no answer. Some Golf Courses actually have guidelines on this.

I always say place it outside of the bunker. Either parallel to the edge or in the direction of the hole.

Depends on the course. I usually try and place them on an edge that would be least impacted by a ball being stopped there.

Some ask that you place them in the bunker on a slope so when the rake is moved (no penalty) the ball will collect in the low/flat part of the bunker.

Thanks all

I see them standing up sometimes along the edge and always assume the guys cutting the grass were just lazy

Why don't you chime in with your 320 average drives.

When I was a youngster the rakes had a spike on the end (looked like a bayonet) so you could stab them into the ground and they stood upright. I am sure some liability lawyer brought an end to that.
