I'm very close to getting rid of my current car, either by selling it or trading it in, and buying one of the above. My criteria were fun to drive, 30ish highway MPG, FWD/AWD and a 6-speed manual.

Just wanting to get impressions/anecdotes from owners of any of the above, or what friends have said if you know anyone who has any of them.

My current car is an Audi and so that has me leaning towards the GTI, since it felt the most similar out of any of the above. The one I drove is a 2016 with 8k miles and it's exactly how I would spec one myself:

2-door
Carbon Steel Gray paint
Heated leather seats
Bluetooth phone and audio
Fender sound system
Moonroof
6-speed

Any input is appreciated.

WRX is the funniest to drive out of that bunch and is likely more reliable than the others too.

Of those, I go Ford Focus ST - solid cars in that class. Too many questions about VW of the past 10 to 15 years.

I would also recommend looking at the Hyundai Veloster Turbo.

A year ago I compared it with the GTI. I drove both. The GTI is faster, but for about 9k less I got a comparably equipped Veloster (33k vs 24k).

I went with the Veloster because of warranty, cheaper price, and it felt roomier. You may end up liking the GTI or one of the others better, but I recommend considering the Veloster as well.

This would be my first choice.

Have you considered the Mitsubishi EVO?

The new focus has the turbo mustang engine, and for around 1000 can be a 12 second car.

GTI. The WRX has a hard ride, more expensive, a big arse wing, and the most boy racer look. Most dealerships won't let you test drive an STI. The Focus has a very cheap inside feel. Good luck getting an RS for sticker too.

WRX.

I bet you can get a smoking deal on that GTI and if you're gonna keep it for awhile, I'd look hard at it.

Forget the Focus ST and go checkout a Focus RS when they arrive. The only thing on its level would be a VW Golf-R.
