Golf board: cutting down your shafts?

Any of you shorter people cut down you driver shaft and inch or so? I'm 5'9" and was thinking about doing this for a better fit and more consistency, but wondering if that will sacrifice distance at all. Seems like the better leverage would even out any potential distance loss. Just wondering from anyone with experience on this issue. The last thing I want to do is f' up a good driver.

I'm 6'2" so I don't worry about the little things.

all you need is standard length shafts, if you cut them down it will stiffin them up, and affect the yardages you hit them
I choke down on my driver shaft about an inch

I've got about 3/4" cut off a 45" shaft. I think it helps a bunch. Lot's of the new drivers have 46" which seems crazy long to me.

Like oleander said, leave the length alone. I'd suggest some core work and deadlifts. Gotta get that club head speed up BAW

Just choke down an inch or so; saves time and money PLUS when you grow up they'll fit correctly

I recently cut my driver (Jetspeed TP) down from its stock 46 inches to 44.5. Huge difference. At first, I lost almost 10 yards on average, but the added control was worth it.
Lately, ive been driving farther than I used to because I feel much more comfortable over the ball and my swing has become more fluid. Just cutting 1.5 inches made that big of a change for me. My longest drives have come with the shorter shaft.
Like others have said, you stiffen the shaft, so its best to do it with a regular flex. Swing weight also decreases a good bit, so youll need to put a light grip and even add a few grams to the head if you want to keep the same feel. If you have a heavier driver, the decreased swing weight may be a welcomed change.
Im 5'8''

In all seriousness, when Tiger was dominating he played a 44.5" shaft on his driver. If it's cut from the butt it won't really effect the flex. If it's cut from the tip, it will play 1/2 flex or so stiffer.

I prefer a more consistent control driver so a shorter shaft would be the answer but I have the power to make up for that so to each his own I'd rather be in the fairway at 280 then in the rough at 310

I'm 6'2" and I shorten mine to 44.5
I am more comfortable a little closer to the ball and feel more in control of my swing. I swing an R1 now and swung an R7 shortened for about 7-8 years.
I've not really seen much loss on my distance, but am more accurate and can do more with the ball off the tee box. Price wise, I think I spent about $35 at Golf USA getting the R1 shortened and then purchasing a new grip.

not totally true. All shafts will act differently. If a shaft is shortened from the tip it will affect overall stiffness much more than butt cutting a shaft. Shaft stiffness is measured in frequency or cycles, and without putting a shaft on a frequency meter you will never really know the shaft flex. I have measured Stiff flex shafts the frequency regular and even xstiff.

This is true.

I have no clue but it sounds good.
