Do the tour where you can ride the elephants.
Rode an elephant bareback once. I think trying to put your legs around them like a horse is a bad idea

We decided early on to skip the full moon party. We're just not there long enough to end up wasting a full day feeling like crap and being hungover. Also, we're 2 women traveling alone, and it just didn't seem like a good situation to put ourselves into.
Ya, I think it might be too much of a gross hippy scene with some sketchy backpackers.

We'll also be there at the time of the full moon party but might want to avoid that event though I love a good booze fest. Hard to weigh it out.
I did it. It's something to see for sure. It's definitely an international puke/trip/rave/sex/rage fest. The whole island pretty much shuts down for the party. It's pretty intense.

I've seen those buckets online. Look dangerous.
Niknik how long are you in Thailand?

Street/casual food is definitely the way to go
Yep.
Was in Bangkok last sumnmer. Go see a Muy Thai match (the crappy one where locals go). You can get a ringside seat for $40 which comes with 2 drink coupons. Rent a boat to take you around the canals to see the areas of Bangkok you don't see in movies or in magazines. Lots of beautiful temples to see if you have time. You will want to stay along Sukhumvit Road, around Soi 15.... it is centrally located for a tons of cool bars and shite to see/do. Chatuchak Weekend Market is a must-see, but beware...it is fricking huge. Wanna buy a hat, a motorcycle, a pet monkey? No problem.
<--- @ gmail.com if you have any questions I can answer.
Bangkok pics:
These little vans are everywhere, all lined up. Grab a drink and chill outside.
And lastly, avoid this stupid count on Soi 15, got food poisoning from her and was spewing out both ends for hours. Don't let the cute smirk on her face fool you, I wouldn't piss in her mouth if she was dying of thirst.
Have fun!

I'm pricing flights now. Got to get back. Including Vietnam this time. South East Asia is a magical place.

Definitely have that planned. Here's a rough outline of what's planned..
Arrive late in Bangkok.
A.m. take an early morning train to Ayutthaya.
Spend the day there...rent a bike, visiting temples, night market, etc.
Take overnight train to Chiang Mai
Spend 3 days there visiting temples, thai cooking school, elephant camp, Tiger Kingdom, visit Hill Tribe.
Fly to Phuket
Spend 3 days there...Ko Phi Phi Sunrise tour, Siam Niramit Show, diving.
Drive to Krabi and spend 1 day/night there.
Fly to Bangkok. Spend 3 days there...Artist House, Jim Thompson's house, Chatuchak weekend market, floating markets, temples, muay thai boxing, diving with sharks.
10 days

I'm stuck between Krabi (Ko Lanta, etc) and Phi Phi on one side and Ko Samui on the other.
I have not been to Koh Samui, but I looked in to it. It seems more like a go and spend time in your resort/relax type place...which could be what you're looking for on a honeymoon.
If you want more activities, you might be better off elsewhere. Also, if you plan to dive, I think the diving near Koh Samui was ok and seasonal.
I settled on Koh Lanta because it is the only place that you can get to dive sites by speed boat that are usually only accessed by livaboards. Plus, you go to the sites that Phuket divers and Phi Phi divers can't get to, so they are not crowded. Also, Koh Lanta was nowhere near as crowded as the pictures you posted of Phi Phi. That said, we were not in Thailand on our honeymoon, but I probably would have done it the same either way.

Thank you for the amazing photos! It's making me even more excited. Our hotel in Bangkok is on Soi 4...close to Soi Cowboy.

Holy shite that is a lot of places in 10 days it seems.
I will be planning a couple more days than that and my itinerary I cut out Chiang Mai to do:
Bangkok: 3/4 days to do Kanchanaburi (Erawan Falls, Bridge over River Kwai, etc.)3 days in Siem Reap for Angkor Wat, and 4 days at the beach.
I did 10 days in India in August, visited a lot of places, but think slowing down might be for the best. IF I could get Chiang Mai in without rushing, I would.
It pisses me off how much Europeans get off for work. They get truly great vacations with the time they have. They just waddle about all over the place without a care in the world.

You're not kidding!
We had Siem Reap on our list too...but had to cut it out. Where we're going is set in stone. Only a few things of what we're doing are set in stone. It's more just an outline/wish list. But both of us feel like we're just going to go with the flow and see where it takes us. The only things we've booked is the air, hotels, inner country flights, Ko Phi Phi sunrise tour and the cooking school. We wanted to pay for as much as possible ahead of time so that whatever money we bring is just fun money.
I'll give a review when I get back on our tours, hotels, etc.

Soi Cowboy.
That street is all kids of crazy. You are just two streets over from Soi 15. Walk up and down sukhumvit road, there are all kids of small soi niches with cool things.

Has anyone been to or looked into the islands Koh Yao Yai or Koh Yao Noi? They look pretty nice and laid back but also pretty isolated. They are North of Phi Phi and East of Phuket.

I really wanted to go to the other side too...but the trip is only 12 days with 3 of that being travel...so very limited.
that is too short for thailand. Spent a month there a few years ago. Pure awesome.
We had limited overlap though, just phuket/bangkok and we were only in phuket for 2 nights. We did do the drag review in phuket and it was AWESOME.

A friend of mine spent 3 months there and even felt like that wasn't enough. It never is. One day when I don't need to work, maybe I'll go for an extended stay.

Going to ThailandI'm leaving for Thailand in 3 days. I'll be visiting Bangkok, Ayutthaya, Chiang Mai, Phuket and Krabi. Looking for restaurant recs. Can be upscale or hole in the wall.
Yeah, all I got out of that was you're going to Thailand and want to put something from a whole in the wall into your mouth. You can probably make yourself about $2 per day if you want.
