If you're looking for local dives, Phantom Divers in Playa is good. They also have packages for Cozumel dives. It's dead down there right now, so you'll likely be on a very small boat.

Diving in Playa isn't bad, but it doesn't hold a candle to Cozumel. Cenotes are cool to dive once to say you've done it, but that's about it. I'd spend the money on a night dive or Coz dive though.

Thanks for the info, that's basically like a spring, right?

Similar to springs in Florida?

Yeah, we are aware of that. Supposedly this spot isn't the worst, but I'm sure it's a nuisance.

I think I saw it stopped. We ran into the seaweed when in started back in January in Xaclak, it wasn't in Playa at the time, but my understanding is that is was on the entire Riveria till recently...

It's an underground cavern system that spider webs basically the entire Yucatan Peninsula, eventually leading to the ocean. Don't believe there are many springs like Vortex, but it's all clear fresh water occasionally mixed with salt.

Some of the more popular ones are Dos Ojos and Gran Cenote.

It hasn't stopped, but it's slowed. Just depends on the tides and current these days.

We did cavern diving in the cenotes. It was great, would recommend.

ETA- agree with above, do a 2 tank dive there. Don't plan on doing multiple days dives.

We go to el dorado every year. Are you staying at the casitas or regular resort? There is a new steakhouse on the property that requires reservations. The Japanese restaurant is good and has great sushi. The Italian restaurant at the casitas is better than the Italian at the regular resort. You get access to both the regular and casitas. There is a martini bar in the main building and it's worth going to before dinner. There are also two spas--again the spa at the casitas is better. Great resort--we have staff there who remember us from year to year. Let me know if you have other questions. Wish I were going as well!

I was going to post that you needed to dive Cenotes and as others have said do a 2 tank dive there. I've been diving all over the world and can say that Denotes is a must.

Off topic one of my buddies is diving Galapagos in Ecuador next week and I'm jealous.

We had a trip to Tulum scheduled for last month, that we canceled due to seaweed problems. We are now going to Isla Mujeres in a few weeks and I will come back on here in post that shite ton of pictures and reviews like I did for other places.

Stay tuned....
