Wife and I are going to Mayan Riveria on Thursday for our anniversary.

We are both SCUBA certified so may try to dive if it doesn't take all day (we are staying 4 nights). Best dive spots in the area?

Anyone been to El Dorado Royale? Restaurant recommendations?

We are not planning on spending much time off the resort as this is our first trip since our daughter was born last year.

No real tips if you're not leaving the resort

Eat the buffet and drink at the pool bar I guess

Yeah, good point.

Guess, was looking if anyone has been to El Dorado and diving options.

Cenacolo is a surprisingly good italian restaurant in Playa. No experience with El Dorado, however.

Be sure to eat at any of the sidewalk vendors. For the real authentic Mexican epicurean experience.

Alux and Oh Lala are good places to eat in Playa if you want to leave the resort for a meal

Take a half day and go diving in Cozumel. You can't travel all the way down there and not do some diving.

El Dorado Royale? Went there almost ten years ago, it was nice. Adults only property then (possibly still) and there were a decent amount of topless women. Some were actually decent or better. Many Europeans, UK & Germans mostly. I hope you spring for the private Palapas to the North of the property. They were fairly private, which was good. The in-suite couples massage is nice, I specified two females, made for an interesting afternoon. The staff there in general were as good as Quintana Roo can supply.

We ate several times on the property, it was really well executed. We went to Tulum via private car and ate somewhere off the property a couple of times. Trip Advisor would be your friend as to the current status of the local restaurant scene.

Have a great trip, hope the cartels don't pick your week to destroy the tourist trade there.

This has the makings of one of those Penthouse letters.

Go to the Mayan temples. Chichen Itza and/or Tulum. Tulum is closer and is prettier. Has less vulture vendors. Chichen Itza (Chicken and Pizza) has more wow factor.

Go diving at Cozumel.

Stake the ferry to cozumel and dive there. If you can, try to hit the S/SE TIP OF COZUMEL. Just at the intersection of the windward/leeward side. Nice diving there.

Ruins at Coba are phenomenal. You can climb the large pyramid and it is hundreds of feet over the forest canopy. Stunning views.

Lot's to do. Check out fifth avenue (Avenue de Cincuatro sp?)
Lots of good shops and restaurants.

Rent a jeep and explore. Playa is a nice small city, you can take a ferry to cozumel to further explore as well.

Don't drink the water.

Wait. You're from South Carolina. Carry on then.
