I worked with Brad for a few years back when I worked at WalMart while in high school. Was a really nice guy and would even help us out when it was slow. Prayers to all the officers families.

Wish there was a better crowdfunding site than gofundme. IIRC they take 8% in fees. 5% for them and 3% for the creditcard fee. Seems like the CC company could be persuaded to drop the fees in situations like this.

8% of 500k = 40,000

ikr? Based on what I read, he seemed like such a loving guy to everyone and he truly cared about the city. It hurts me knowing that his very young son will have to grow up without his awesome father.

Brad Garofola's too.

His family came to meet him with the car packed to leave for vacation, then found out he had been shot and killed within the hour. How do you even begin to tell the 4 kids that their father is gone.

I don't even want to know the hell that these families are going through right now. I bet they're awake right now. I know if it was me I would be able to sleep.

Verification of these GFAs.

There is at least 2 in Matt Gerald's name.

Is there a way to check identification these accounts?

Are all of these validated? I'd love to donate but don't want to be caught giving to scammers either.

I received an email thanking me for my donation to the account in the OP for Officer Gerald from Jaylan Gerald (not the automatic one from Go Fund Me)

Is there a general collection fund for all of those lost or injured? Possibly a joint effort between the police and sherrif department?

Not to stop people from wanting to donate, but the families of these officers will be compensated. Last i checked the amount will be upwards of 1 million dollars for each. I would love to see people donate more money to the officers that were injured and will not have a job because of this tragedy. The injured officers and families of those that cannot return to work have little to no assistance for their sacrifice.

There are several generic GoFundMe's set up. It seems to be local girls saying they'll "deliver a check," but I am just so scared someone is going to pillage the cause.

In case anyone wants to make a donation to Deputy Garafola's family without paying the GoFundMe fees, I spoke to the sheriff's department this morning and they have set up a memorial fund through their office.

You can send a check to:

EBR Parish Sheriff's Office
P.O. Box 3277
Baton Rouge, LA 70821

Make the check out to "EBR Parish Sheriff" and write in the memo section of the check "Brad Garafola's Memorial Fund."

100% of the money will go to Deputy Garafola's family.

I also spoke to the BRPD and they are in the process of setting up a fund for their two officers' families so all they are doing now is taking the name of anyone who wants to make a donation along with your phone number and email address. Once they have the process established, they will contact us and give us the donation information.

If you want more information, the phone number to contact the Sheriff's Public Information Office is (225) 389-5091 and the BRPD non-emergency number is (225) 389-2000.

Admins: if this post violates board rules about soliciting, I understand if you delete my post. Thanks.
