With Hurricane Nate ready to hit New Orleans this weekend I'm flabbergasted that there are still pumps that are not working. As of Thursday, 108 of 120 pumps were operational. Why isn't this a top priority? When Katrina hit all of the pumps were not operational and 12 years later they are still not all operational. This is just ridiculous.

Common sense goals for each Mayor of New Orleans:

1. Decrease the violence in the city. Start a program like New York City implemented, "stop-question-and-frisk program, or stop-and-frisk." More cops and more security cameras. Tougher sentencing.

2. Have all 120 pumps operational for the entire hurricane season!! Does this need to be said.

3. Improve the levees. Unless I'm mistaken the current levees are rated for a category 3 Hurricane, the same as it was before Katrina. This is not good enough. Start improving each one until they all rated for a category 4. I realize this is a very tall order but each mayor has a term of four years. They each should be able to upgrade one levee during their term. Implement a one cent sales tax to fund it or ask for federal funds, idk but get it done.

A safer city from violence and flooding should be the top priority for every New Orleans mayor before they move onto to other issues and improvements.

Not that proggie. He's worried about stone statues offending a small segment of society.

i dont think that is a mayor issue. i would think that to be a USACE or a State of Louisiana issue

Because removing statues is much better for pandering to his voters...

Don’t need the pumps anymore now that the statues are gone.

I would offer an alternative. Rather than throwing good money after bad, maybe don't continue to build in coastal areas that are below sea level. The future is not bright for those who do.

The area inside the levee/floodwall protection system is rated to 100 year surge at this point. This has nothing to do with the pumps inside the system that handle storm water.

The state/CPRA/Levee Districts are responsible for maintaining these levees and keeping federal flood elevation.

100 Year surge protection is about the best you can hope for in New Orleans considering the environmental issues/subsidence that happens with bigger/taller levees.

One big thing to look for in an actual surge event is the effect on the lake water and the northshore. The northshore has zero storm surge protection.

at you for believing this. They were still lying when they came out with their final conclusion on how many were fricked up. They're still lying now. A New Orleans politician is lying as soon as his mouth opens.

And if it only took a couple of months to fix them all, why so many broken at the start of hurricane season?
