Can the same methods be used to scrape texture off of walls? Ceiling doesn't have a heavy texture but my walls do.

If the ceilings have been painted (since the original spray), you will not be able to easily scrape off the excess. I remodeled my house 3 years ago and had my drywall guy skim coat all ceilings. I did not have the super thick type of stuff.

It took him 2 coats but they look wonderful.

If you have not done drywall work before do not attempt to do this. Ceilings are very tricky, light gets on them and shows any variations.

Hire it out. Save your back and neck.

DO NOT REMOVE IT! I DIY'ed this when i bought my 2,000+ S.F. house a few years ago, and all my ceiling looks like crap (even with a fresh double coat of paint over it). They used popcorn ceilings to eliminate the need to "finish" the taped joints in the gypsum board, so if you scrape the popcorn off, you still have to go back and re-finish the taped joints.

For my house, i'm debating whether or not to cover all my ceiling with T&G wood planks, or to re-popcorn everything.

I bought this:

I fell through the ceilng during my renovation and had to redo the whole room ceiling (mixed in a colored paint in the popcorn mix so that if any of the popcorns "fall" off, there won't be noticeable white spots) and it looks great.
