Actually buying a pressure washer is a waste for most people IMO. Quality gas washers are expensive and need to be used and maintained regularly. Like just about anything else with a gas engine, using it once and putting it up for two years is a good way to significantly shorten its lifespan. But most residential users really don't have enough pressure washing needs cropping up fast enough to warrant consistent use and maintenance, so the washers just rot.

IMO renting is the better option.

Electrics in the $100-$200 range fall somewhere between a garden hose and a good gas washer. I think they're worth owning if you'll get a few uses out of it per year. Worst case scenario is it only lasts a few uses anyway, in which case you probably broke even with renting a washer a few times in its place.

A badass pressure washer gives you motivation to clean the hell out of stuff that's already pretty clean

PSI is great but I thought it was the GPM that really makes the difference?

Its a combination. A wide open garden hose with no nozzle will deliver high gpm. There needs to be pressure to get thst water moving fast

Electrics are good for some things and they are less maintenance... if you want to wash your car, clean mold off wood or siding... stuff like that. But if you want to deep clean concrete you are gonna need gas.

It'll kill your arms and back though, might want to look into a spray glide attachment if you are gonna be cleaning a lot of concrete.

Gas by far.
Can always throttle back as opposed to looking for extra power you don't have with electric.
However, it all depends on your use. If you're using an electric frequently on a relatively small, already maintained surface that may be all you need.

Electric was just easier for me. I pretty much only have it for cleaning bugs off my car before I wash it or spraying the bricks and siding of my house.

Electric has worked fine for light use around my house also, concrete mostly. No Maintenance/fuel, takes up less space, etc. Of course it may be a tad slower to use, but that is negligible in my situation.

If you are planning on doing driveway or sidewalk...get this accessory and you will cut your time and pain in half.

Everyone knocking electric is talking about the cheap wal-mart type models. I've used this one for two years, commercial use. I'm talking about a guy running it 40 hours a week. Never an issue.

Gas is a hassle for any job longer than 20 minues because of refueling. Not to mention the gas motors dont last as long. Usually the gas models have crappy pumps that go out when used long term.

I bought a gas powered washer for $275. It costs $50 a day to rent one. That's ~5 days of use to break even.

I just make sure I use ethanol free gas, and there is literally no maintenance.

Correct and how close you get to the vehicle with it. It can take off paint if not careful.

Dude, that thing is $900 amd 220v. That's infinitely less practical for a homeowner than a $300 gas pressure washer which gives the same performance.

Whatever you get, make sure it has a triplex pump, preferably a CAT, General or Udor. Udor pumps can run dry and not burn up like other models but cost a good but more. Pressure washers with axial cam pumps have a lot shorter life expectancy and most crap out within a few years of homeowner use.

Whatever you get, it's not going to be the motor that goes out first, it's the pump mechanism. Be sure to get some pump saver and use it every time you finish a job.

I'm looking at these too. My wife loves to pressure wash stuff but she sure as shite isn't going to be able to gas up a pressure washer, crank it, and go.

I'm looking at the 2000 PSI electric models. I figure it may not deep clean the shite out of the concrete but it should be plenty and the wife can use it when she wants.
