Totally agree. Galveston doesn't hold a candle to Port Aransas for anything other than being more populated and more kid friendly. West Bay can get really hot in the winter for trout, but with the population exploding, its over fished even this time of year.
For years a buddy of mine had a bay house a few feet from the Laguna Reef in Rockport. We would headquarter out of his place for 7-10 days every fall and spring and come home with carpal tunnel from casting after chasing trout and reds from there down to Riviera. I miss the days before Wallace caught his record trout and Baffin went from a secluded wading spot for huge trout to Grand Central Station of fishing.
Still a beautiful part of the world.

Galveston is closer, and has more amenities such as restaurants, fishing, beaches, pleasure pier, hotels, etc.
Corpus is further away, but also has solid fishing, and Port Aransas beaches are less murky water than Galveston.
Edit - if coming from Austin, probably better to skip Galveston and head straight south.

why not go to Padre?
Better water for sure than either Galveston or Corpus.

Definitely not, and the beach is terrible, but you can make a weekend of it if you're the type of restaurant and bar hop. I don't know that you necessarily need to drive there to do that though. And it certainly would be much better to do that 30 minutes away in Houston.

The further into south Texas you get, the better the beaches. I had a house on north Padre island for 5 years. I'd still go further south.
Galveston is where you go to collect discarded needles on the beach.

Those of yall that are living in Corpus, I will be there for work starting next month, for a few years. Where should I look and avoid for apartments? Not gonna try to find something until I get over there.

Where are you coming from? Distance might matter.

Avoid the westside of town. Anything on the Southside close to Saratoga or Yorktown Blvd would be fine. If you have money to spend, get you a condo on Ocean Dr.

I’ve lived in CC most of my life. I chuckle when I see Louisiana folks give this place a bad rap. It’s fine, tourists won’t get shot at, and you don’t have the issues one would find in Austin like rampant drug use and homelessness.
You can find some good food, good fishing, decent beaches nearby. There’s an aquarium and aircraft carrier. If you go to North Padre there are some decent resorts that have been touched on.
CC is much bigger than Galveston, not sure if you’re looking to drive once you get there or park yourself in a beachside condo.
