i take blood pressure meds

I used to take a low dose bp med as a migraine prophylaxis. I had to quit taking it because I don't have high blood pressure and it was causing dizziness and near black outs. I would get the fogginess in my peripheral vision and have to sit down until my vision returned to normal. It was a cheap high, though

Vertigo is a symptom, not a diagnosis.

Is it more of a lightheaded feeling or does the room truly spin around you?

Do you take blood pressure meds? Sounds like it's orthostatic hypotension. Common from standing up too quickly and blood not being able to perfuse the brain quick enough.

Most likely sinus related, some fluid in your ear etc causing this. Try nose spray and other sinus related medicine and see if that clears it up

Meunieres disease?
Tumor
Odosclerosis?

Any accompanying hearing issues?

Go see an ent and they can start figuring it out.

drink water. Then more water. Your piss should always be crystal clear and if it's not that means you're not drinking enough water.

Sounds like you're not being active enough. Try moving around more often.

We didnt have that happen when we were kids. Mention history when you go in for the md checkup you need for those frequent dizzy incidents spells.

Ent seems like 2nd base. Gp first.

I didn't read through the thread, but in all seriousness go see your ENT. It happened to me a lot and I found out that I have Meniere's Disease. Sucks. They suggest to limit alcohol, salt and tobacco. I may do that when I get older, but I'm just living with it and taking Antivert (Meclizine) pills whenever I get dizzy.

ETA: Read thread and prob not Meniere's, but it still sucks.

Are you coming off of any medication? I would say it's likely BP related if you're only having problems when you stand up after sitting down.

If by chance you are currently on blood pressure, then your heart rate might be slowing down, which would also cause the dizziness. If this is the case you will more then likely have to have a pacemaker, in order to insure your heart rate doesn't fall below 60 beats per minute.

Before having a second cardiovesion last Tuesday my sitting heart rate was staying in the 130 range. Now it's high 50s low 60s usually. But I do take both blood thinner (warfarin) and blood pressure medicine as well. I can't think of the name of that one.
-----------------------------------------------------------

Darth:
Are you taking Lopressor (metoprolol)? It's a Beta Blocker that I had to take when I got severely dehydrated and had a crazy cardiac event. Atrial Fibrillation, along with a very irregular and rapid heart rate. After being sufficiently bitched at by my S/O, we went to the ER. I was standing at a counter filling out paperwork and started feeling worse, so I said, "I need to sit down before I fall down." A nurse took my BP and pulse, and the next thing I know, I'm getting treated before the other fifteen or twenty people in the waiting room. I hate waiting in line, but the immediate attention kind of worried me!

My heart rate was all over the place, but was as high as 218. I think they gave me Metoprolol to control my heart rate, but I'm not 100% sure.
They IV'd me, and then ran a battery of tests the next day, but I stayed in A-Fib and couldn't/wouldn't convert on my own. So they did a Transesophogeal Echocardiogram/TEE (A real fricking treat that'll I'll be happy to never be subjected to again) and Cardioverted me. I'm not sure how many joules of energy they shot through me, but I had what appeared to be about a 5" x 7" mild sunburn on my chest. I assume there was a corresponding one on my back.

Anyway, back to the Metoprolol...
Before they shocked me, and after ~40 hours of Metoprolol, my heart rate was in the 90s. In the recovery room, the monitor kept alarming because it was as low as 32. I tried telling them that my normal resting rate was about 60 and that if they stopped the medicine, I was sure my heart rate would get back to normal. How well do you think that advice was received?

I don't know what else it does, but in my experience, it will suppress your heart rate and make you feel tired (depending on the dosage, I'm sure).

If they keep having to cardiovert you, there may be a pacemaker in your future to go along with your new mitral valve. Hope you're back to 100% soon.

I take that and about 12-13 other meds daily.

Before my first open heart surgery my heart rate would go as low as the 70s one moment to the 150s the next. Along with having stage 4 congestive heart failure, I also had a-fib to go along with it.

One week before my first open heart surgery they gave me my first cardioversion and it worked for a couple days. Then as part of my open heart surgery they did a procedure called an "ablation" (I probably misspelled that) where they make small cuts in my heart to create scar tissue that is supposed to slow the heart down. This procedure they said could take a month or so to work. But within a few days after my first heart surgery the a-fib came right back. They upped my medicines (I also on ameodorone (butchered spelling again I'm sure) as well which likewise is to slow the heart. That again did a cardioversion on me two weeks ago tomorrow and (knock on wood) it's got me out of a-fib and down to a normal heart rate. If I flip back into a-fib my cardiologist has said they'll have to go back in and either try another ablation or look into a pacemaker.

I hope it doesn't come to either, especially the ablation. It's one of the reasons I had complications a week after my first open heart surgery that lead to the now infamous "dying incident" and a second, this time emergency, heart surgery.
