Now that he's ok, all I'm interested in is knowing what kind of 36' boat he had.

Why didn't he just climb back on the boat?

Rob Konrad, a former six-year Miami Dolphins fullback, survived a boating accident in the Atlantic Ocean on Wednesday night by swimming nine miles to shore, the Coast Guard said.

According to multiple reports, Konrad, who was said to be fishing alone off the coast of South Florida, fell from his 36-foot boat, which had been operating on autopilot.

Petty Officer Mark Barney of U.S. Coast Guard told ABC News that Konrad was in the water for 10 to 12 hours.

I don't think it was an accident, I think he fell off the boat on porpoise

says it was set to autopilot. I guess the boat was moving faster than he could swim?

I didn't read.

It's just what came to mind first upon reading the title thread and brief description without any quotes from the article.

that plus the gulf stream, it's pretty fast out where he was, easy to get separated from the boat and you can't catch it, some thing does seem a little suspicious about this story though

Yeah pretty much the only way to drive a boat (other than most hunting boats) is in "auto pilot"

God that would be a shitty feeling realizing you just did this, i wonder if he was drunk?

9 miles is only believable if he had a life jacket on.
