Oregon park officials are hunting for a family of vandals who defaced a trail after they smugly posed for a photo with their handiwork.

Brett Nelson said he was hiking Tumalo Falls in Deschutes National Forest on Saturday when he spotted a man and his two teenagers carving their names into a trail railing.

When Nelson’s hiking partner pulled out a camera to document the vandalism, the family mocked the park defenders — and then gladly posed for the picture.

The U.S. Forest Service officials launched an investigation into the incident, because they have Nelson’s photo evidence.

meanwhile, in baltimore..no arrests.

They sound pretty trashy. Screw them.

Really odd you would try to draw a parallel to that, though.

So in your mind it's okay to vandalize public property. Gotcha...

Yeah, I'm not ready to excuse every act of petty trashiness lawbreaking everywhere because some uneducated naer-do-wells decided to destroy a portion of their city elsewhere. Sorry.

I'm not saying let's lock these people away, but screw them and their trashiness. I'd be happy to see them fined to pay for rectifying what they did.

The authorities have enough to do with chasing down expired inspection sticker violators!

Maybe they should find a way to exploit and encourage the vandalism until it becomes a tourist attraction like that padlock bridge in Paris.

Exactly. How do you tie-in a trashy family defacing public property with the Baltimore Riots? I wasn't aware the park service was responsible for catching those responsible for causing the unrest in B'more.

it is sad when you go to the Smokies or Rockies or something and they have these old frontier homes caked in graffiti.
I do feel we need to punish people fro graffiti.

1st offense their house or car is tagged by the police.

2nd offense they get caned

3rd offense they get a hand cut off.

(no i'm not serious)

its a black metal railing. how much damage could they actually have done scraping a name with a penknife?

eta i've found the story in about 15 different places..not a single shot of the actual "damage" yet.

must be some seriously wicked damage if no one wants to show it.

Again, how does this tie-in with a park service investigation of vandalism? Since when do park rangers enforce state inspection sticker laws?
