Picked up 3 gallons of paint at the Sherwin Williams 40 % off sale. Yep, the sale that never really ends - it seems they always have it.

$130.00 ... supposedly I got the 2nd best line of paint they offer.

Going with it for now, but in the future, would I have been better served (price wise and durability) buying paint at Lowe's or HD? Or even somewhere else such as Benjamin Moore or Ferrell Calhoun?

I bought Benjamin Moore this weekend for $33/gallon fro Ace Hardware. So after tax it was about $37/gal. Seems pretty reasonable. Paint is just expensive as frick.

It is or at least I believe it is.

Regular Price $64.99 - $26.00 Discount = $38.99 plus Baton Rouge's 10 % tax rate x 3 gallons.

Glad to be doing the painting job myself.

No need to buy that stuff. BEHR is great and reasonable and is consistently rated the best paint for the money.

Just finished painting every surface of a house we remodeled. Used the top of the line SW paint in several rooms and top of the line Home Depot paint. The Behr was better paint. Took up to 4 coats on the SW we rolled. Out of a pro spray rig we got one coat coverage. With the Behr it only two coats. I'll never buy SW paint again.

Benjamin Moore "Aura' and "Regal Select" always top the reviews.

Paint has come so far. You most likely wouldn't tell the difference in coverage and color if you would have went with Behr or Valspar... shite you could roll with the Olympic Premium and wouldn't have noticed.

I should have asked you prior to buying paint on Saturday ... was more of a spur of the moment decision.

IMO paint is something where the bitter taste of poor quality lasts alot longer than the sweet taste of a low price. The premium lines from Lowe's/HD are good but the quality from their paint workers and mixer can be unreliable. That's not usually a problem from a dedicated paint store.

Maybe it's an in house Lowes Sherman Williams line where I'm at, but I picked up 2 gallons for $40 a piece over the holidays.

This is like the "50% off everything" sale at Hobby Lobby that's been going on since the store's inception. These candles are normally $24 dollars, but today (and everyday) you can get them for a meager $12.

They use the same machines as paint stores

I've had bad mixes from Home Depot several times because the store near me is poorly managed. I assume the machinery isn't serviced properly. I still buy paint there and just put up with it.

wut?? You relize it's paint program in a computer these days and they aren't mixing the paint dyes manually right? I mean if you bring a paint in they can manually lighten it or darken it but when you pick a color it's all programmed. The same at big box or mom and pop.

I think it is. I went to Lowe's yesterday and saw this. Maybe an HGTV marketed type of paint from SW inside Lowe's?

That sucks.

I don't have issues with them except for them having the paint section understaffed and waiting like 30 minutes to get a few gallons.

that store isn't managing the machine. The Behr rep is most likely the one. I was a territory manager for a coatings company and know that the actual paint reps are pretty hands on and will make whatever right for you.

sherwin williams is good paint. Id prefer to pay a little more there and have someone that is knowledgeable instead of dealing with some asshat at a lowes or home depot that knows nothing.
