Based in part on the OT recommendation, I've decided to switch from front load to a top load machine. Now I've talked to a salesman who is trying hard to convince me to get one with an agitator. He claims the top loads without an agitator do not draw enough water and therefore, don't clean the clothes thoroughly.

FWIW, he sells Whirlpool/Maytag and Speed Queen. The biggest downside to one with an agitator is 4.7 cf is largest one made and not sure that's large enough for a family.

Salesman is correct and doing you a favor...fwiw i just retired from 35 years in appliance sales..more complaints on these toploads without agitators then every other product I sold combined. (excluding broke icemakers)..
Most problems with front loads you read or hear about are "operator error"...mold, mildew, odor etc..caused by too much soap and not leaving door open after wash..

Top loaders with agitators have been around for over fifty years. They are very reliable.

Every new method of washing clothes has had problems.

Can't you wash two loads? They will be cleaner if you don't stuff the washer so full.

I have a top-load HE machine (non agitator). In my opinion the machine DOES NOT get the clothes clean as one with an agitator. But, I will add the non agitator is easier on the clothes and sheets.

Had an LG front loader and matching dryer. Both were crap. Circuit board went out on washer and dryer took multiple cycles to dry thoroughly

Got rid of them and went with old school top loader with an agitator made by speed queen

Wife more than satisfied as clothes actually get clean and dryer only needs one cycle to dry

I highly recommend

We just bought a top loading machine with an agitator. Too many people I know complain about the new energy efficient machines not cleaning or not even getting all of the clothes wet.
Thanks, Obama.

I have a top loader. I'm happy with the results.

If I could go back in time I would definitely buy one with the agitator. Clothes don't seem clean and if I use powder detergent (load to small for a pod) it sometimes does not dissolve all the detergent and have to run the load on rinse again. Never again!
