- First 9 days: 17,578 riders. - Following 16 days: 40,219 riders. Average fare: $91

So that's 1953 riders per day for the first nine days, and 2514 riders per day for the next sixteen days. That's a 29% increase.

And at an average of $91 per fare, that's $177,733 per day for the first nine days and $228,746 per day for the next sixteen days. Or if the 2514 riders per day extends for a year, that's revenue of approaching $84 million per year. Is that enough to cover the operating expenses and service the debt?

It’s 36 minutes by car. What am I missing?!

Miami traffic. You ain’t making it from Fort Lauderdale to downtown Miami where the train station is in 36 minutes during rush hour or if it rained. When I lived in Miami I lived 2 blocks away from Miami Central Station and I used to commute to Jackson North hospital which is only 1/3rd of the way to Fort Lauderdale and I would have to allow hour for traffic or I would be late.

Brightline is owned by Florida East Coast rail and is a private company.

The Brightline screams thru our town (Stuart, FL) and I usually catch it. Three minutes later it's gone. Stuart, Ft Pierce, and Port St Lucie are vying for a station.

Once you start adding stops, your high speed train is no more than faster subway line.

Too many stops make the train much less efficient for having to slow down and stop and speed back up again.

Take the Sunset Limited for example, luckily some stops are only done if there is a passenger to pick up or drop off. The train station in Schriever is used like this.

really hope more states and regions build high speed rail links between major cities and hubs

People will refuse to ride it on the simple principle they will not want to sit next to a stranger when they can drive instead.

Average fair $91. What’s the Ft Lauderdale to Miami fare vs the Orlando to Miami Fare? If average fare is that high, I’m assuming most people are going to Orlando and back and not using it to get from FLL to Miami.

I guess it depends on your luggage demands but you can fly miami to orlando for 79 and the flight is an hour so you probably save 1.5-2 hours of time.

Does the 1.5 to 2 hours you save over the train account for the time you need to get to the airport early before boarding your flight?

People will refuse to ride it if it is slower and/or more expensive than driving or flying.

I like rail travel, it just doesn’t seem to make sense financially here outside of a few areas. I mean shite the feds just denied Nola to BR. If that route can’t get built, there are onjj kk y a few that ever will.

Nobody said anything about coast to coast routes. We should absolutely have regional networks that connect major cities.

Why have high speed rail if we have high speed air?

The fact the US doesn’t have high speed rail available nationwide is a disgrace.

Connecting the Florida cities makes sense. Could probably do the same in Texas and California and maybe DC-Boston. Otherwise most places are too far apart and planes would be far better.

The only thing your idiotic arse proved with that map is a high speed rail network going from big city to big city would work. No one is talking about a non-stop east coast to west coast train route.

Private bus companies use the interstate. I would be against an government intercity bus service operating at a loss.

The trip from West Palm to Miami is awesome. You get to drink and chill in first class accommodations. Way easier than driving.

I can’t wait to take it to Orlando. We have a voucher from when they canceled in early September for the FSU/LSU game. The drive to Orlando sucks.
