In laws want to keep their dishwasherafter receiving 20 inches of water in their home. My wife and I think it's gross and that they should just get a new one.
Their argument is that they can just run bleach through it.

OT thoughts?

I can't believe it still works or will work. I'd get a new one.

If it was closed flood water shouldn't have made it inside.

I'd get a new one but whatever makes them happy.

I'd be surprised if there isn't damage to the electrical components. They could always inspect it and clean the outside. The inside getting clean would be the least of my worries IMO. Bleach would do the trick.

They aren't wrong... assuming it still runs.

However, I'd get a new one. That flood water was disgusting.

I hope they get a new insulation blanket for it.

It probably has a greatly shortened life. I'd use it till it breaks.

I would rather have the old one taken out, the area cleaned, then a new one installed.

Why would someone want that nastiness still in their home?

You're gross.

Your wife is gross too, she knew you and she still married you.

I think it's disgusting what you and your perverted friends do for amusement at your "parties".

I know, it's disgusting. But you can't tell them anything – they always know better than everyone else. We tried telling them countless times to get rid of it and just buy a new one, but they insist on simply cleaning it out and keeping it. We are baffled.

I thought dishwashers and refrigerators were covered under flood insurance-for a reason!

If it's a money thing just buy them one.

There is a lot of stuff that I would have just cleaned had I been flooded.

A dishwasher isn't one of them.

They didn't have flood insurance, so they are paying for all of this themselves. However, it's not a problem. They are true OT ballers. No really, they have a lot of money and they are still being cheap asses about it.

Mine got 33 inches of water and was brand new before the flood. I cleaned it as well as possible and it still works great. I agree about the insulation blanket being nasty but otherwise I am also going to ride it out until it breaks. If it were not brand new I would have replaced it.

I'm not sure where everyone gets the idea that the floodwater was nasty. It's just rain and creek water. The same stuff we swam in as kids. I'd be more worried about mold from dampness.

Why do you care? Is it working? If so, leave it alone. If it stops, replace it. It's not hard AT ALL to replace later.
