What have you witnessed or heard about?

I used to date an older woman who told me a story of how her aunt bought a huge brand new house that she could not afford. Shortly after the purchase her aunt was endanger of losing the home. So my girlfriend stepped in and started to pay the monthly morage. She did this for two years until her savings was emptied. Then her aunt was booted from the house and the bank reclaimed the home. I asked do you really think your aunt is going to pay you back all of your lost money with her messily minimum wage salary? My girlfriend said "No, and I don't want her to. I'm just so happy she could live there for two extra years because of me." Then my girlfriend sat there staring at me with this proud self gloating smile stamped to her face. It quickly turned to a frown when I said that is the dumbest thing I have ever heard in my life. What an idiotic thing you did. She did not talk to me for two weeks and the relationship ended a couple of months later.

You stayed with her for two months after that? I question your judgment.

Honest question, if women did not have vaginas would we even acknowledge them?

Well I happen to know a lot of amazing women and most of them I don't want to have sex with, so yes, I would. I can't speak for you.

I know a guy who cashed out of IRAs early and took the penalties in 2008 because he thought the market was heading to zero for good.

I guess he was watching too much 24 hour news.

I heard about this story from a friend of a friend.

Girl was dating a guy for a little while then one morning as he is leaving for a meeting his brief case pops open and a load of cash falls out. She asked him what it was for and he said a business deal that was a sure thing. She then begged him to let her into the deal and of course he did. He took all her money and caught an Oceanic flight to Australia. She got knocked up from the rendezvous and is now broke.

I used to work with this redneck from OK. He bought a brand new truck (even though he knew he couldn't afford it) and quickly got months behind on the payments. One day he made another genius financial decision and decided to go to the casino. Well, somehow he ended winning about $8k on a slot machine. Perfect timing to get caught up on his truck payments, right? Well, on the way home he passed a house that was selling a couple jet skis. He stopped by and bought them on the spot for $7500.

ETA: the truck was repossessed about 2 months later, but he kept the jet skis

i inherited $100k 10 years ago. I started a company with the money that eventually failed during the housing crisis. The good news is that the failed business led me to the current business that I started and is quite successful, but I had a couple of really down years being hard on myself for squandering the money on a failed business.

Looking back on it, I made some bad decisions that contributed to the failure. I may have been able to ride them out without the housing market falling apart.....but couldn't make it. Now that I'm doing what I'm doing, I'm glad I didn't spend the rest of my life doing the first business. I'm much happier now.

Haha. I bet those are the same type of idiots that will be clamoring for free education, healthcare, and $15 min wage one day. Hope that stupid shite doesn't happen any time soon.

Acquaintance sold his house it and bought a significantly more expensive one six months before he was laid off. Wife still works, but without his his salary, paying the mortgage is a hardship. I'll call it a blunder because he should have seen the oil downturn coming.

A guy I worked with:
Him: Well that was the easiest $300 I ever made...

Me: Ok, I'll bite. How did you make the $300?

Him: This company in England sent me a money order to cash for them because they can't cash American money orders over there. I cashed the $2,400 M.O. got to keep $400 and mailed them the $2,000 in cash

Me: Sounds fricking fishy. Why would they send it to Joe Blow in arkansas? Could be a scam, could be money laundering.

The next day:

Him: You were right. That money order was counterfeit and since I mailed cash I have no way of proving I mailed it. The bank froze my accounts until I pay back the entire $2,400.

So much for the easiest $400 he ever made.

I'm just gonna make the assumption that you moved to New York from Arkansas.
Which, of course, leads me to not not believe you.

I kid, I kid-but not really.
