Authorities say one person was killed in a single-vehicle crash that occurred Saturday morning.

According to Louisiana State Police, the accident happened around 1 a.m. Saturday on I-10 West near LA 73.

Officials say 15-year-old Jessie Chaney from Denham Springs was traveling westbound on I-10 in a 2004 Infinity G35. Troopers believe Chaney was traveling at a high rate of speed when the left rear tire failed, and he lost control of the vehicle.

The vehicle went off the roadway, struck a tree, and ignited while Chaney was still inside. One of the passengers was unrestrained and ejected from the vehicle. Chaney had a total of four passengers in the vehicle and they are being treated for moderate to serious injuries, authorities say.

Chaney sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene.

A routine toxicology sample will be taken for analysis.

Yeah, that's not good. Let's hope his parents weren't aware of him having the keys.

Parents will be sued. No doubt. As a parent, I’m torn on whether or not they should be sued. A lawsuit won’t uninjure those other kids but a lawyer will definitely go after them anyway. Sad.

I’m not torn at all. The kid died. Parents should be left alone. Knew a couple whose son was driving and wrecked and died. Had a friend with him that lived with minor injuries. The friends family sued those people into oblivion. Very sad for them. They lost a child and had to pay.

So I don’t advocate suing. But I’m sure someone will.

That’s what all passengers do when involved in car accidents. It’s not like those folks were the exception.

It’s not personal either. Just getting that insurance money.

Depends on how much insurance they have. I’ve seen a friendship ruined over a wreck. Buddy of mine was at fault. Him and 2 passengers had minor injuries, not sure about the passengers in other vehicle. By time his insurance paid the driver and passengers in the other car, they reached policy max. His passenger still sued, despite only really having a few bumps and bruises. They weren’t friends anymore after that

Thats how Id see it as a parent and wonder what I could have done to educate my child so he wouldn't have done it.

Kids are kids and they are still humans. Wrong risk management decision and lack of experience in this world/driving.

That's what people do when other's actions caused them great bodily injury.

They sue they shouldn't be out of pocket for expenses because someone else was driving carelessly

wording is a bit messed up but those parents should be sued for doing such a lousy job. Good parents don't have kids that do that kind of crap. I'm sure some of you did the same stuff and think you have good parents.

Can anyone point to where the article stated that there was recklessness involved?

It’s says they believe he was traveling at a “ high rate of speed” when the “rear tire failed”. Sounds like he had a blow out. Who knows if he was speeding - the speed limit is 70which is a high rate of speed, especially while experiencing a blow out.
