The Federal Emergency Management Agency will be bringing in temporary housing units for homeowners displaced by the heavy flooding in south Louisiana.

Just don't call them FEMA trailers.

Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards announced Wednesday (Aug. 24) the mobile homes will be available for people who don't live in a designated flood plain to set up in their yards as they repair houses. For those in a flood zone, the mobile homes will have to be set up at trailer parks or other identified commercial property.

The governor says the mobile homes meet higher regulatory standards than the much-maligned travel trailers used after Hurricane Katrina hit in 2005.

So what are they going to do with all of the ones still on the side of the interstate in Mississippi?

If DSNAP and FEMA grants are any indication of how they divy these up if means only super poor Section 8 residents will get them.

Apparently you had to get 24 inches or less of water.

They still have hundreds right out side of Opelousas on Hwy 190. Would like to know what politicians buddy had been getting paid for having those sit there for 11 years.

Is there a deadline for how long they can stay in someone's yard? Can I get one and rent it out?

I recently drove down 190 from BR to Opelousas and in the left just past Port Barre there are hundreds and hundreds. Mind boggling that they haven't done something with them.

What do you think they are using? A little Dawn soap and a few new tires and they look like new.
