Only happens to me due to a dream. Like last night I dreamed I was in Africa, 2nd story of a building in the middle of the plains out there - some woman had a crocodile wrapped around her trying to kill her, I was about to shoot the croc and a lion came and tried to take her away for his own meal, the other crocs pounced on the lion.....all of a sudden the woman wasn't there any longer and it became this massive brawl between lions and crocs in this muddy pool. Not knowing where the woman was or how to save her, I decided to shoot every lion and croc there while trying to find her. Definitely had a high heart rate with that.
If you randomly wake up like that and it's not obviously connected to a dream, probably should get a sleep study. I think it's totally normal when dreaming though.

This is a possibility, and you don't necessarily have to be a big fella to have sleep apnea. My cousin has it, and he's no more than 175 pounds.
But yeah, "big-boned" folks are MUCH, MUCH more likely to have this problem.
