Just found out that someone I know has one planned, and it's basically a mandatory attendance thing for me. Can I expect a blowout, or a meh experience?

Or he's in the wedding/close family... although that would be pretty late notice.

Fake an injury. Perfect night to go solo, you'll know where your SO is, just avoid that area.

Personally I hate making NYE plans. Stood in my best friends NYE wedding a couple of years ago and it was awesome. Mass was at 7PM and we rung in the new year at the reception. I got to enjoy a live band, good food, an open bar, and fireworks FO FREE with some of my closest friends.

Had a friend change theirs to this and give us like 1 week notice, was suppose to be the best man but had already paid for tickets to a NYE event so I just bailed on the wedding.

Why do people on this board always complain about getting invited to weddings?

Virtually every wedding I've ever attended has been an awesome time. A wedding (read: reception) on NYE sounds like it would be a blast.

What kind of shitty weddings do ya'll go to?

Sounds like there will be a lot of very drunk people there.

If no open bar then bail.

Went to one in Chicago a couple years ago and it was awesome (from the parts I remember) other than being freezing cold.

I went to one 2 years ago in North Hollywood. The dude is a doctor and the reception was awesome. Great band, great food and a lot of fun.
