Ever been Metal Detecting?

I went with my uncle a couple of times, over thirty years ago. We went around the Port Hudson area and found a few things. The coolest was a civil war sword. Have any of you been?....found anything cool?

Just started. The coolest thing I've found thus far is the tab from a beer can.

I'm thinking about getting one.

I saw one model that is also good for shallow water detecting for $300 or so comes with $200 of extra stuff..

Meh. I've never been bored enough to spend hours looking for shiny but mostly worthless objects.

I also did it with an uncle before, looked around Daytona Beach before I think we found someone's nose or tongue ring before. We looked during bike week so it didn't surprise him when we found it.

Down here in FL they have commercials with old people metal detecting, it's funny.

re: Ever been Metal Detecting?
Baton Rouge is a great place for electronic archeology. There is a lot of history downtown and there is a very active metal detecting crowd in BR. If you drive around downtown on a weekend morning, you'll probably see guys with their sticks playing cat and mouse with the police.

If you want to get into treasure hunting, go to a local dealer and buy a used detector from one of the better companies like White's or Fisher. Don't buy from Kellyco. Go visit the online forums and join a club and learn from the veterans.
