This is the correct answer.

He should have returned the money.

Overpriced or not, inventory sold has to equal money in the drawer and that night it didn't.

Your buddy is a thief.

They don't feel bad for charging 3-4x standard retail value so I really don't feel bad about hosing them. I figure that over time they're still very much ahead when it comes to who's screwing who.

At LSU (and probably other places) they count cups, containers, etc. They know how many hot dogs, nacho containers, etc. that they start with.

It all has to balance out.

Karma isn't a real thing so that's not a reason to be honest. That's happened to me on more than one occasion and I've always let them know their error. Of course it wasn't at a football game.

This happened to me leaving Baton Rouge at Exxon. I handed her $10 for powerade and she tried to handed me $18 back. I told her I only gave her a $10 bill and she thanked me. Wasn't about karma or anything I just knew that she would likely have to put that $10 back that was missing and she needed that $10 more than I did

If I noticed it right at the start, I'd give it back. If I went back to my seat and noticed it, nope.

$12. He hands the guy a 20 and the person behind the counters hands him back $18
The clerk should have counted back the change.

It ain't my job to make sure the knobheads behind the counter can do basic math.

And 12$ for a hotdog and drink is basically robbery. So he just got robbed a little less.

It depends on the venue to me. If this was a high school game or college game even, I wouldn't want the vendor to get screwed over. The time it happened to me was at the Superdome in the plaza level buying beer which was absurdly marked up, so I didn't feel too bad for them. Maybe I'm an a-hole. I also noticed the mistake after I had grabbed the change and beer and left the concession stand, so I wasn't about to go back and fight the crowd to let the guy know he failed math.

Hardly. If you weren't smart enough to do your Job and made a mistake, is that the other person's fault?

It's not like we are talking a large amount of money here.

Twelve dollars for a hot dog is not robbery because you have a choice. You sound like a democrat whining about that. If it's more than you're willing to pay, don't pay it. Nobody is forcing people to buy concessions at sporting events.

Oh, he's free to pay, and to pay for the convenience of not having to worry if he's getting the correct amount of change back.

The impetus for action is on the vendor to take care of his end of the transaction and hire competent people.

Not acting on being given the proper amount of change won't make him a saint, but I'd never call him a thief.

Return the money.
And it's not a close call nor a dilemma.

Prices at Husker games at Memorial Stadium aren't all that bad. I can get a 32oz Mountain Dew in one of those stupid collectibal cups and a Runza for $8. Much better than NFL games.

After reading the responses here, I wouldn't leave my change on the bar if I were out drinking with half or more of the people on this board.

Actually in this instance the karma was bad for the venue, considering they're gauging prices- your friend just happened to be on the benefiting end.

No such thing as an ethical dilemma (scenario), there's just right or wrong. In this scenario, your buddy was wrong.

The good news is, karma is made up BS.

I would not have taken the money.
