Don't Jetta diesels elsewhere get like 100mpg, and 40 here?

Great. More regulation. Causes vw to pass on the cost of this recall to consumers. The Volkswagen is a safe, egalitarian vehicle. Why can't the government just step out of the way?

Because lobbyist for US automakers have been angling to hurt small diesel sales since forever.

I see there's a class action lawsuit already in place, and I own a vehicle that falls under it. To take money or not to? I'm sure it will be a pretty good chunk of change considering the premium paid for a TDI.

Yeah, zero chance I take it in for the "recall".. Also, do not get is serviced at the dealership, they will do it without your consent.

So, I'm trying to remember which VW diesels opted not to inject urea to control NOx emissions. Does this recall include both urea injecting and non-injecting diesels?

Particle pollution - especially fine particles - contains microscopic solids or liquid droplets that are so small that they can get deep into the lungs and cause serious health problems. Numerous scientific studies have linked particle pollution exposure to a variety of problems, including:

•premature death in people with heart or lung disease,
•nonfatal heart attacks,
•irregular heartbeat,
•aggravated asthma,
•decreased lung function, and
•increased respiratory symptoms, such as irritation of the airways, coughing or difficulty breathing.

I think the article said that VW failed NOx emissions....not particulate emissions.

You might be forced to depending on how your local government tests cars. Wouldn't be hard to flag the "cheating" OBCs in the system and trip an automatic failure of your test.

Regardless, I think this will be the largest payout ever by an auto manufacturer. There's zero chance these cars will be "made whole" (drive like they did when you decided to buy it). Also, there's the environmental faction that bought the cars because they felt compelled to due to wanting to lower their impact. Add in the EPA getting their share, this will be huge for VW.

One reason it is good to live in an area where they don't have local vehicle emission testing. I'm wondering if we will see the prices drop on used tdi's (from individuals) in the near future.
