Elderly neighbor wants me to pay to replace her fence

Let me start by giving a backstory. Since Hurricane Gustav in 08, my two elderly neighbors have blamed my wife and I for anything that goes wrong in their lives. They had a tree that was rotted and deemed to be about 80% on their property and about 20% on ours. We offered to pay to have it cut down as we new it would fall. They declined they liked the "shade"Well it did fall on their house during the storm, and it messed our driveway and fence up as well. Since then they have had other issues with their home, and have developed a change in their back yard elevation as a portion of it has begin to sink. Causing her back fence to sag.
So yesterday afternoon she knocks on the door and tells me it's with great displeasure that I have to give you this but I need you to take care of this ASAP. It's a quote for $1,200. 00 to replace her fence in her backyard. She said it's our fault because we had not trimmed the tree's behind her fence and due to all the limbs and leaves falling it caused damage etc( again this is not my property at all and we have no trees hanging over their property)I tried to be polite at first and then she said our lives have been terrible since "your tree" fell on our house! I have never disrespected an elderly person but I told her to GTF off my property.
Anyone ever had a similar situation?

If I'm not mistaken the law is they're responsible for trimming back the tree even if it's your tree. Unless they can prove your tree was in bad health.
Technically because you warned them pre-Gustav you could've had them pay for your damages.

Seek legal council and make their last few years on earth a pain in the arse.... out live them and win the war.

if you really want to be a dick, stake out your yard near the fence and dont let them or workers on your yard for the rebuild

That is correct...like middle-aged folks and like younger people...

Not your problem. Just ignore it.

If the fence is on their property, it is their responsibility. If it is on yours, remove it and tell them you took care of it. They have the right to cut any limbs that extend to their property. I would try and keep the peace tho. Bad neighbors can make your life hell.

Try this,
"It's with greater displeasure I'll have to make a phone call. You see, your children have been worried about you. They asked me to let them know when it seemed you couldn't live independently any longer."

First thing I would do is have a survey done of the property. If you're lucky then "her" fence will be on your property. If that's the case then I'd rip the whole fricking thing down and make them start over on her property.

You don't owe them shite. I had the same issue with my neighbor over the "TREE" issue. They wouldn't let me cut it down for nothing. The tree fell tore the carport down on there property. They pinned 3 quotes to my mail box and told me to pick one. I balled up the paper and tossed it by the front door. The old hag comes out the house and tells me and my friends or family that I screwed them out of 2,000. Just ignore them. They hate that more than anything
