Meanwhile seizures and forfeitures for weed hit all time high.

Anyone want to bet where the resources go?

From what I've read, it's what is being sold as heroin, namely fentanyl, that is causing the overdoses. Fentanyl is 40-50 times more potent than pure heroin.
Either way, it's the addiction that's really killing them.

38 deaths doesn't seem like a lot. I would have thought it would be much higher.

So the students who are doing heroin USED to be buying oxy but that's too expensive so have now switched to heroin?

What ever happened to doing some lines and raging all night?

People who used to do painkillers switched to heroin Bc it's cheaper or, for some, more available. This is Bc the government cracked down on doctors prescribing pain meds. These people can't just switch to a different drug Bc they're addicted to opiates. Heroin is an opiate just like oxycodone.

Well, if they don't want people to OD on heroin then stop making prescription opiates so hard to get.

So the answer is to just feed them prescription "herion" just so they continue their recreational habit without the risk of a heroin OD? How about we just let junkies be junkies? I suspect the vast majority of these deaths weren't of people who got hooked on pain meds after a very significant injury and had to "switch" to heroin, but rather a bunch of morons who CHOSE to take pain meds (and subsequently heroin) for recreational purposes.

Most of the heroin epidemic is a direct result in the cut-off of opioid painkillers.

Prescribed or street?

Heroin dealers should be prosecuted as murderers, 1st degree, because that is what is going to happen. User will die. It's just a matter of when.

Then firearms dealers should be liable for the guns they sell.

You can do drugs and handle the high, very few who do these drugs die in comparison to the amount who use them.
I don't think a street level dealer should get life for this. In fact I think ALL drugs should be legal and regulated by the state.
If you choose to stick a needle in your arm, then you know you are risking death. Same with someone who gets trills by Parachuting or motocross.
The dealer doesn't shoot you up with a fatal dose, he just supplies the product the person requested.

Clark has been pushing his drug war agenda since well before he became coroner. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if some of his findings were flawed.

i used to think this way too, but there are some drugs that just cannot truly be regulated because of the severe risk of overdosage... heroin is one of them...

i'm all for legalizing marijuana though..... cocaine is actually already legal, technically... it's a CII, rarely used nowadays, but it is a very effective topical anesthetic... it's made by Roxane Labs, who gets the leaves directly from Coca Cola after they extract the flavoring they need for their product... and the transfer of the leaves is federally regulated....

Why the need to regulate them? Just make it very clear that using the product can result in death. And if they die then they die. And if they OD then tax payer money won't be used to rescusitate them. Same principle should apply to wearing seat belts

Yeah, we're trying a different approach. We've had 7 deaths in the past few months which is a lot for a town this size. Locking people up ain't working.

Drugs should be 100% legal to possess, buy and sell. But illegal to use.

Completely remove the profit and police bust activity.

Somebody that's fricked up driving a car, on the job, in public - that's who you put the law on.

Well the government has decided not to let junkies be junkies.
