re: EBR 3.13 Mill Tax Renewal for EMS

Trust me, you don’t want to call Acadian in an emergency. My granddad was having a literal stroke and it took those people 32 minutes to get to my house. In prairieville. Then when they got there it was two LGBTQ kid looking people. Nose rings and purple hair with their shirts untucked and sloppy looking type. I wasn’t sure if one had a blood stain or a ketchup stain on his shirt.
For all the shitshow that EBR is, EMS is something that actually seems to work as it’s supposed to. Ebr ambulances get to you quick with a sense of urgency.

This is not a new tax. It’s a renewal to continue to fund Emergency Medical Services.
You want a third world country? Then, yeah, stop voting for these kinds of taxes or just don’t call EMS if something happens if you don’t deem ambulance useful or necessary. Just saying.

Many health services are heavily subsidized because the reimbursement to the companies from the insurance payouts is not sufficient to cover overhead. Most people do not realize this.

When are we going to stop this bullshite??
When you stop allowing people that DO NOT OWN property to vote for property owners to pay taxes for services for non-owners.

That will never happen because it makes too much sense. 3.13 Mill?? That has to practically equal 1/2 of the property tax we pay. It's an insane amount of money. believe me, they can manage without it.

If there wasn’t so much crime, they wouldn’t need as robust of an EMS system

We don’t force people to call us

Then why are cities and towns across the country that are growing rapidly while their fire, police, ems departments are shrinking or staying the same size? In the meantime while public is raising hell that there is nobody to respond or it’s taking too long.

If you don't own property or pay property taxes then you shouldn't be allowed to vote on property tax increases IMO

At election time: “we need more money to keep you safe.” Huge snow event 2/2021: “don’t leave your house we can’t save you!!”

A tax paid by the people for EMS. Given to a provider decided by politicians. Provider then bills taxpayer if they utilize the service.
Wonder why we get to use a jet owned by Acadian?

A 3.13 mill property tax ($313 per $100,000 of assessed value) for 10 years
how does it work?
Posted on 10/16/23 at 1:36 pm to CrystalPreserves
Paramedics working ems are often kids just out of high school making less money than baristas and servers dealing with gunshot wounds and gory horrific injuries all day and night. It’s a shite job that pays a shite wage hiring people barely qualified, yet they’re responsible for saving lives. It’s one of those jobs that absolutely astounds me at how little it pays.

You've heard that taxes never come off the books right....it is especially true in LA....LA citizens never see a tax renewal that they won't vote for...EVER.

You’re confusing with call us for emergencies and we’ll come with please call us

Teaching kids to know how to use 911 is common sense if in an emergency situation. That’s not indoctrination

I agree

I can’t speak for police but most fire/ems agencies are bringing the same money they were decades ago while everything else is much more expensive

How can people continue to vote in favor of property taxes?
Several Factors
1) EBR voters are pretty stupid, and most don't know that millage is a tax.
2) "Republican" voters in this state have never voted on a tax they didn't love.
3) Idiotic morons see "EMS" or "Fire Department" on a piece of legislation and it's an automatic vote, regardless of what it reads.
We are an overtly stupid populace. We vote Republican every election, but we are too stupid to do our own research.
EMS/Fire Department or any other facet of new taxes is not needed because the baseline spending on all of these departments is already out of control. But stupid people do what stupid people do.

FYI, there’s a proposal on the ballot for property tax exemptions for first responders in the November election.
This is going to be abused by the “other full time public employee involved with rapid emergency response”

I’d also like to add from my other reply, 911 show is simply a show, not an ems agency. I don’t know of many ems agencies begging you to call, I could very well be wrong though. They may advertise to use their non-emergency services and want you to call though. I don’t know any that are begging the public to call for anything for emergencies, that’s simply a budget killler.

I don't give a frick what it's for. I always vote no on any and all property taxes. If it's that important, propose a sales tax.
