How can people continue to vote in favor of property taxes? This is a huge tax on property owners. This is fricking insane.

A 3.13 mill property tax ($313 per $100,000 of assessed value) for 10 years

When are we going to stop this bullshite??

We are not. The newest voters have been trained to believe gov't is the answer. They want socialism. They are willing to pay for it.

Brah this ain’t for Council on Aging or some other entity with no oversight, it’s for EMA services. Kinda important.

If La property taxes were more in line with other states the sales taxes would be much lower

Let the property tax fail and I promise you if it is really necessary, they will come up with the money. For example, possibly use COA tax funds or God forbid, the gov't cuts back on something else.

As if the people voting for this own property. InB4, "it makes rent go up so they do pay." The average voter is an idiot and figures "I don't own property so this is FREE!!!!

They in no way understand that the costs trickle down.

Who oversees EMS? Who appoints the board? Are they running a surplus like BREC and the Library Board? Could we legally divert more tax dollars away from the Libraries to EMS to cut taxes?

This discussion needs to happen.

To vote, you should have to own property. Especially when voting on property taxes.

Brah:

EMS can charge for their services. While we do have a great EMS program, it seems that they could run it like a private ambulance and make money ala Acadian.

Exactly. Just like they did with the GNO bridge toll expiring.

It was all doom and gloom but here we are years later and the bridge isn’t falling apart and all the lights are on.

That will never happen because it makes too much sense. 3.13 Mill?? That has to practically equal 1/2 of the property tax we pay. It's an insane amount of money. believe me, they can manage without it.

I had no idea this renewal was on the ballot until I went to vote. It didn’t come up on my ballot on the GeauxVote app either. I stay on top of election stuff so I was shocked.

FYI, there’s a proposal on the ballot for property tax exemptions for first responders in the November election.

... Did you miss this part here? It's a renewal, it's not a new tax.

I thought EMS still sends you a bill. Why do they need a tax at all?
