So there have been a few threads on the drop cam and most of the responses seem to be positive. But there isn't much information on using it as a baby monitor.
There seem to be some pros and cons from everything i have read. But if im going to spend $200 on a baby monitor it would be nice to be able to buy something that can be used for security etc also.

So anyone have a dropcam with thoughts on using as a baby monitor? Or used as a baby monitor? I have an old iphone that we can use exclusively for the dropcam.

I'm assuming since you are on here you have access to the rest of the internet? How on earth can you say this? There is a metric frickton of information about it being used as a baby monitor.

It is an excellent baby monitor device. Just about all of the countless reviews on this very same subject say the same thing.

Not much info on tigerdroppings about using as baby monitor. A ton on the internet obviously, mostly positive, but there are some negatives so I just wanted to see who actually uses it as that and what their thoughts were.

We looked at DropCam and FosCam, but we are going with D-Link for our baby monitor. Only because we could actually register for them. If we could have registered for FosCam. That is who we would have gone with. Both Fos and D-Link allow you to save video to SD cards or other storage devices. DropCam only saves to their cloud, which you have to pay for.

I use it for a baby cam and like it. However, we yet to use the voice activation feature because our baby is only 9 weeks old and is still in the bassinet in our bedroom. My wife and daughter live in Boston and I split time between Boston and NYC. I really like that I can check the camera via phone or on the computer at any time. The picture is clear, but will blur as you zoom in. My main complaint is that the camera doesn't pan or tilt. However, the field of view is quite large.

I ordered a second monitor for when we move our daughter to a separate room. I did this for two reasons. First, I need to move the dropcam to the living room to serve as a nanny cam. Second, I want an independent monitor with voice activation. I don't want 4 devices going off when the baby starts to cry.

I have a couple of drop cams and they are awesome. I don't use it for baby monitoring. How old is the baby...still sleeping in a crib? If yes, then the drop cam would be good for monitoring the childs room.

If the child is a toddler(with in home child care) then the monitor is not that good because the child will be in multiple rooms during the day.

Infant=I would recommend
Toddler or older= I would not recommend, unless you are concerned about the child care giver.

That's only $10/month. You can't honestly let that small price get in the way of the decision.

That's because you don't have a baby.

And it wasn't your house.

Do you use the "Enhance" icon after zooming in? The icon looks like a magic wand.

$200 for the cam plus $120 a year vs under $100 for a Foscam.

There are a few threads on the Tech Board about Dropcams vs Foscams. Look on there. I personally use a few Foscams, and one of them is used as a baby monitor.

If it was for indoor use only I would. I had a friend who had them and they sucked outside for security cameras.

The OP wants to use these after the baby is grown and they don't use it for baby cam anymore. I couldn't recommend it for anything besides maybe the babycam.

I have one in the garage and one aimed at the inside of the front door. I haven't tried any of the outdoor Foscams yet, but would like to.

Honestly i never really even heard of the Foscam before this thread. I looks very similar to the dropcam. I guess i will check out the tech board and do some research on the difference between these.
