Ok saw this posted on my fb today and this made me smile. It's a school of down syndrome teens/adults dancing to Shake It Off. You can see how much fun they had making this.

That was cute but I think that song is better suited for celebrating Parkinson Disease Day.

Yup. Happiest people ever. They appreciate the simple things in life. Some of them also have the biggest meltdowns you've ever seen, but even those put a smile on your face after you get used to it.

They usually are...but they can get very easily upset/frightened as well. And when they are older, are stronger than they realize and can hurt others when upset/frightened(I was punched before by a teen with downs while trying to start his IV).

Awesome. Glad to see they're having fun. We do a yearly event with a local organization for people with disabilities and it always amazes me how pure of heart and kind the people there are.

Yeah I saw some of those

I was seriously in a pissed off mood looking on fb and saw that video and it made me snap out of my mood and smile.

Yall know I have siblings that are mentally challenged. Granted they don't have downs...but because of my brother and sister I have a huge soft spot for anyone with mental disabilities. I try to show extra kindness towards them because I hope that strangers that encounter my siblings do the same to them.

My ex is coming up next summer with her son (from her second husband) who has Downs. I'm going to take him rafting and whale watching. He seems to be an awesome kid.

They're always happy and DGAF what other people think about them. They just have a good time with no self-consciousness. People without DS could learn a lot form that mindset.

Yup...my brother in law and his buddies are proof of that. One of my fondest memories was watching my 3 year old daughter share a donut with her uncle. The two of them couldn't be bothered by the outside world.

Great post, Nurse.

It is on March 21st because the syndrome is caused by having a 3rd copy of the 21st chromosome...hence 3/21...

FYI.
