How old are you downshift? And do you have any alcohol related arrests in your past?

According to my record I have never been arrested.

You need to figure out which branch of service you want to go into first. How old are you? I can answer some of your questions about the USMC. I once upon a time had a flight contract with them. Didn't work out for me though.
21 next week. I was part of Civil Air Patrol ( ) In high school so I have a decent idea of how it all works.
Zero arrests, only a ton of speeding tickets.

It doesn't matter if it was expunged, if that's what your saying. They will know about it. It's not a deal breaker. Just don't lie about it. An engineering should help a lot.

I was never officially arrested. I don't suppose getting thrown in a car once would matter?
How realistic are a guy's chances of getting in a pilot seat though? I'm pretty sure I can handle the physical stuff easily, but how many people are actually cut out for flight school?
ETA: and by cut out I mean cut out to come out on top of the class and get in one of these badass birds.

2 things were missing - no one hit the breaks and let them fly right by.
Kenny Loggins rocked that soundtrack.

Is the cutoff to have your wings by 28 still?

one of my best friends graduated from the Naval Academy, then went to the flight school
He said only the top of the class get slotted for fighter pilots.
Then fighter helicopters, radar planes, then cargo planes/helis.
I think.

it is less than this
pretty sure it is dependent on a lot of testing and whatnot, but only like 1 or 2 get slotted for fighter jets per class
now this conversation with my navy buddy happened like 6 years ago and we were drunk, so take that FWIW

If you weren't fingerprinted you should be good.

I'm only going to speak to the Marines because that's all I'm really knowledgeable on. The Corps will grant you an Air Contract. Which means you are guaranteed a slot in flight school. Which type of bird you get depends first and foremost on the needs of the Marine Corps and second on your choice. I've heard the Marines spread the talent around. So #1 in the class will get jets, #2 C-130s, #3 helos, #4 jets and so on. Don't quote me on that though.
Also Marine pilots are expected to be Marine officers first. All officers go through The Basic School for six months after OCS so you would have to go through that before flight school. You'll also probably be assigned to infantry battalion at some point in your career for a tour as a forward air controller.
There is also the Air National guard. You can get hired directly into one of those units as a pilot. So say if you joined the ANG squadron out of Belle Chase you would be guaranteed F15s. I don't know much about this route but the poster Drew Orleans is in the process of doing this. I think he has been accepted and awaiting a slot in flight school.

oh yes, this was part of it as well
I remember thinking that I would be pissed if I finished top of my class and all they needed were cargo pilots

Flying rubber dog shite out of Hong Kong would suck

I had a buddy who was desperate to fly cobras but his whole class went to jets. Poor guy.

This is exactly correct.
And of that select few, the best are sent to top gun to get "taught" maneuvers and tactics to train their respective squadrons.
I spent four months at Top Gun in Fallon. shite was intense. Watching a couple 18's wreck Raptors, which are superior in every way, by tactical maneuvering is so fn sweet.

no. and I don't believe any other occupation will garner more shock and aww then seeing one of those dudes in public. Jaws and panties drop wherever they go.
