my dog did the same as a puppy. I kenneled her forever and last year started letting her free for short periods of time that slowly increased. Now she can stay out of her kennel w/ no worries.

I didn't read the whole thread, but have you tried chewing her stuff? Give her a taste of her own medicine.

Has a switch to turn on/off the squeaker. The felt lasted about a month and a half but he still chewed it. Finally got through the rubber in three months.

One last thought on the chew toys. Do not use them as a cure-all or a reason/easy way of not exercising your pup. A high drive shepherd left with only chews can and will gnaw their teeth to the gums.

Your living situation is not ideal for a shepherd. If she's in the crate and hears activity, she's going to want out. I would think with time she will adjust but that is more dependent on your housemates.
