Does Louisiana have reckless driving or just careless operations?

One of my workers got in a wreck and got a careless operation ticket. Curious if Louisiana has both tickets or just one.

Wrong. Careless operation covers all of those. Got one of those a few months ago for speeding.

ETA: in Louisiana, there is no difference. The only statute refers to "Careless Operation". No statute on reckless driving.

They have reckless operation. I found that out after talking back to a police officer about an illegal lane change.

He hit me with careless driving then, I dunno.

a-hole.

Yeah you are.

LA RS 14:99 Reckless operation of a vehicle is the operation of any motor vehicle, aircraft, vessel, or other means of conveyance in a criminally negligent or reckless manner.

LA RS 32:58 Careless Operation - Any person operating a motor vehicle on the public roads of this state shall drive in a careful and prudent manner, so as not to endanger the life, limb, or property of any person. Failure to drive in such a manner shall constitute careless operation.

14:99 does not limit the "public road" like title 32 does. Title 32 is only for public roadways. 14:99 is a criminal charge and can be applied in parking lots, driveways, etc.

Ha, you're right. Searched "reckless driving" lime the OP said, not "reckless operation".

Touche my good man.

Would love to see them pull a guy over in an aircraft and ticket him. Lmao!

Thank you for finding that. Where did you find it? That's exactly what I was looking for. I found one site, but you had to know what you were searching for.

Sounds like reckless is more severe than careless.

They have both. I have gotten both. Careless is usually given in a wreck. Reckless is usually given alongside a DWI

LA has both. For insurance purposes, careless is a minor, reckless is a major violation.
