dry cleaning will have that funk because of the fluid used in cleaning, it's very strong and very toxic most states are outlawing the old cleaning fluid but as of just a few years ago, when I owned a dry cleaner and was asking a friend about this(who owns a chain of cleaners in SHV,) he laughed and said they aren't too concerned about that in La, just take it out of the plastic, it will evaporate

you might be cleaning too often and the clothes are becoming saturated

wear them awhile, unless you really are being a sweat hog in them they don't need cleaning that frequently, if you are being a sweat hog, just ask them them to steam them every other time, or maybe 2 out of 3 times

Recently or as a whole? I hadn't noticed it, but it's be a while since I needed them.

does steaming them get the smell out?

It's called perchlorethylene, or per.

yes, the smell is from too much dry cleaning fluid, steaming will get it out and clean too, I'd recommend more steaming with the occasional dry cleaning, even if you get something on it, it can be spot cleaned and steamed

I talked to a cleaners about the smell, and they explained the one I used probably used the same chemicals through the week. Sure enough I noticed Monday or Tuesday dropoff the clothes would be fine. Thursday or Friday dropoff and they would smell. I switched to the cleaners that taught me that because they switch to a new batch twice a week instead of once a week. I have never had the smell at the new cleaners. I spread the word about the smell (which everyone knew of) whenever I saw someone with clothes hanging in the car from my original cleaners. All of them switched.
