Baton Rouge is a great college town. Unfortunately, it will never be much more than that. It is too suburban and spread out as well.

Perkin's Rowe is the type of development that Baton Rouge wants and gets.

My biggest problem with BR is there aren't enough neighborhoods like that. Too sprawled out without cultivating the interior.

Ok so BR should just stop everything they're doing and make a serious push to be just like New Orleans and you'd be happy? Hell, why stop there? How about every fricking square inch of the planet do the same? Then everywhere you step it'll be just like NOLA. That's brilliant!!!

BRT is a great way to spur development and it is 1/3rd of the cost of streetcar

BR once had a nice little area in Chimes/Northgate, but that has been destroyed by the deadly D&D of developers and demographics

Baton Rouge is an industrial town that has a college. The college could disappear and it would survive.

NOLA is a tourist town. It the tourist left it would survive as Charleston.

True

So is the Port of NOLA, and even more so.

Fact is, the entertainment in BR is lacking because of the fact it is essentially a giant suburb with college kids.

While a large tourist city, NOLA and surrounding area make up a rather large part of the nations industrial complex as well as one of the nation leading ports.

Hence why why I said it would be Charleston. Port, some industry, small college, rich "old money" southern racists.

Calm down, Paco. A lot of that port is north of the city and is considered the Port of South Louisiana

Is there really a NOLA BR rivalry? I mean, one is a cultural city that tourists flock to, the other is a housing project that happens to have a school some of you are fond of.

And this explains so much about your posts. Someone is a little mad, a little jelly, and maybe has some unresolved issues.

One of the Major hubs is the Napoleon Ave docks, and the center is considered LaPlace. Facts and stuff bro.

No one north of 310 claims to live in NOLA. NOLA tries to claim the commerce.

Again, Charleston.

Doesnt matter what those who live north of 310 claim, LaPlace ports are what they are because of NOLA.

quote:

The Port of New Orleans is the United States' only deep-water port served by six major railroads, which is more than any other port in the country, that give it cost-effective rail service to the destinations throughout the country. These six railroads are linked by the New Orleans Public Belt, a 25 mile long railroad. The productive private maritime industry in the Port of New Orleans helps it produce year after year and giving it the United States' largest market share for imported steel, plywood, coffee, and natural rubber.

Charleston is a ridiculous comparison. No where near the size, tonnage, and so on.

Charleston does about a tenth of the trade the Port of NOLA does.

We can factor is many other areas..oil and gas to be one. My point here is that Charleston not in the same league to compare.

The port of Tacoma does more tonnage than Charleston.
