Called tonight to cancel my uverse Internet and got to talking about my cable.

I have the U300 plan now and like it. It's $130 for it. The guy offered to give me the AT&T/directv plan for $75 plus a $100 gift card.

It all sounds great but I've heard horror stories about directv going out when the wind blows. He told me that was "old school" and the signal is much better since merging.

If you have it, what do yoi like? What do you dislike?

Occasionally goes out during storms but not real often. Expensive but I like it.

Directv is great. There are tons of threads here with people who either love it or hate it. Make sure the tech shows that you have great signal strength before he leaves otherwise you need to make him adjust the position of the dish to get a better signal.

They merged a few months ago, if you were to believe they updated everything that quickly then we aren't friends.

It's not incredibly problematic though. I think we've had it happen 2-4 times where we lose satellite signal for maybe an hour at the most over the past year.

So there IS an actual dish outside the house? I just don't know how I feel about that. I see those dishes and one, think it's trashy, and two I think the signal sucks.

They are moving customers to from wired uverse to Direct so they can offer internet speeds that rival cable internet. Most uverse tv customers have a 25-50 Meg internet connection, but the TV uses a lot of it.

Oh yeah man. So trashy

It's a good thing you can tell the signal sucks by looking at it

Has to be some pretty hard rain to knock out signal. Some people have dishes that aren't set right, and they get knocked out easily, but if it's set right, it will rarely ever go out. There's plenty of info online about how to fine tune it and it's simple.

How do you know the signal sucks if you have never had directv? The signal is much better than all cable except fios. If the dish is installed correctly you will have very few issues with weather related issues.

DirecTV came out with a new dish a little while back that is supposedly bad arse and doesn't go out. I've still got the old one and I've been really happy with that honestly

Have directv, it goes out in really bad weather, but comes on immediately.

When my cable went out it was for hours if not days.

Have been negotiating with ATT/DirecTv for better rates on all three plans. Saving a little while tweaking the plans.

Checking in. Signed up for this package, enjoyed directv but absolutely hated AT&T. The internet was no where up to speed with COX (midcity BR) and all I had heard since moving in was "We're planning on upgrading the system to uverse." In my two/three years of living here it still hasn't happened and the bill went from about $30/month to $75/month. Kept directv til the contract was up, gave up on internet after six months or so

I was worried about going to satellite as well, but I've really only lost signal when it's a pretty bad thunderstorm. I certainly still miss cable in the sense it never went out, but if that's your only determining factor, I wouldn't worry about it.

Got my dish in late 2013.
